Ten minutes until kickoff. Confidence is high.

Chizek wants them to "play their butt off"

Wild Onion

I really like ISU's uniforms.

Vepr
09-15-2007, 12:41 PM
I can understand wanting to establish the run early but how about establishing a first down before worrying about getting the run going?

Vepr
09-15-2007, 12:47 PM
Well this first series is starting off ugly for the Hawkeye defense. It is possible that Syracuse was just that bad. The Illini are beating them 17-0.

Way to go Kirk lose to a crap ass program like this again.

Vepr
09-15-2007, 12:51 PM
Glad they only got 3. A little less pressure on the offense but they have to move the ball. Hopefully we trying to get some passes in this time instead of run - run - try to pass - punt.

Wild Onion
09-15-2007, 12:51 PM
The Hawks got pressure up the middle on Meyer once when he rolled out right for the first down, but after that, nothing.

I still don't think there's anyway ISU's going to be able to run.

Vepr
09-15-2007, 12:53 PM
Maybe not with their running backs but Meyer could give us a lot of problems in the running department.

Karl Hungus

They won't run, but I am concerned about pressure on Meyer either way. We ALWAYS struggle against competently mobile QBs.

Vepr
09-15-2007, 12:58 PM
Well at least it was not three and out. Sounds like they are getting pressure on the Jake which is not good. Come on Defense crush them for a quick three and out.

Karl Hungus
09-15-2007, 12:58 PM
Don't want to be concerned at this point, but I've seen this too many times before

atemp

Iowa makes Bret Meyer look like Vince Young. Todd Blythe is slower than shit, but Iowa still can't cover him.

relax erybody, only the 1st quarter.

Soda Popinski
09-15-2007, 01:01 PM

Vepr

another field goal. no big deal. lets go hawks.

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:06 PM
We could use a score here even if it is just a field goal.

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:10 PM
Good first down.

castichawk24
09-15-2007, 01:11 PM
wow, i can't imagine trying to raise my lil brother (if i had one) good like that kid.

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:12 PM
It sounds like they are selling out on the run so something has to be open in the passing game.

FrankDrebin
09-15-2007, 01:12 PM
we really need to sustain a drive.

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:13 PM

i'm not sure what the panic level colors are for our country. but i'm moving my level up to yellow.

Why do we always play like crap vs ISU?

Karl Hungus
09-15-2007, 01:14 PM
I am hoping we can do more on offense with the wind in Q2

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:15 PM
Meyer is killing us.

09-15-2007, 01:16 PM
Another nice punt by Shanky.

FrankDrebin
09-15-2007, 01:16 PM
Every year we play ISU in Ames, I end up wondering how the Clones look so bad up until they play us...

castichawk24
09-15-2007, 01:18 PM
its a mystery i don't think we'll ever solve frank.

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:19 PM
God I hope they just had a slow start and the Hawks do not sleep walk through the rest of the game.

Karl Hungus
09-15-2007, 01:19 PM
No pressure by the front four = our defense looks terrible

Saw it all year last year, and we are seeing it today

FrankDrebin
09-15-2007, 01:20 PM
nice hit by Edds there

Wild Onion
09-15-2007, 01:21 PM
If Meyer continues to complete 75-80% of his passes, the Hawks will lose.

Wild Onion
09-15-2007, 01:22 PM
I think the secondary is doing their jobs. All of the passes are underneath. Hawks just need more pressure.

castichawk24
09-15-2007, 01:22 PM

atemp

It was panic time at 3-0, Iowa just didn't get the memo.

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:23 PM
Well this will at least let us see what they team is made of. That could have been worse but 9 - 0 still sucks. Hopefully this is not Panther state at the end of the game.

HawkInGopherland
09-15-2007, 01:24 PM
back from soccer...wtf???

Karl Hungus
09-15-2007, 01:24 PM
9-0 is the best possible position to be in right now.

However, no points on this drive = panic time

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:25 PM
Are they at least getting their ears chewed on by the coaches?

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:25 PM

Time to stop recruiting slow ass white linebackers from high schools in po-dunk Iowa.

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:28 PM
Is he our only punter?

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:30 PM
Come on guys force a turn over. Our offense needs the ball inside the 50 to have any chance at putting points on the board.

Soda Popinski
09-15-2007, 01:30 PM
I think we should adjust our strategy to moving the ball downfield on offense, and getting some QB pressure on Defense. We might want to try covering the receivers also.

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:31 PM
Meyer has no pressure on him and he is just eating us up.

atemp
09-15-2007, 01:31 PM

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:32 PM
It is times like this that I wish Ferentz had a little more fire on the sideline.

FrankDrebin
09-15-2007, 01:33 PM
good stop. good to see some emotion.

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:33 PM

I love fricking zone defense.

Soda Popinski
09-15-2007, 01:35 PM
ISU receivers are WIDE OPEN every play, their O-Line is bullying ours. We're giving the receivers a 15 yard cushion and getting no pressure on the O-Line.

Im embarassed.

HawkInGopherland
09-15-2007, 01:36 PM
I'm getting really pissed...why can't our coaches and players do the same?

Vepr
09-15-2007, 01:36 PM
Maybe it is the fact that we are so fricking predictable that you can watch game tape from 5 years ago and game plan for us in the present.

Karl Hungus
09-15-2007, 01:38 PM

Wow. Parker and O'Keef (sp?) haven't learned a damn thing.

3rd and 3 and Parker has us in a mini-prevent defense.

Iowa State is just running a wide reciever across the field against a linebacker and killing us.

Iowa State's kicker is having the game of his life.

We can and should be running all over Iowa State but choose to pass way more than we run.

This game is just rolling along and Iowa State is eating clock. It is one of those too little too late.

I think we have the talent, but the game has passed our coaches by.

Pathetic.

Soda Popinski

Yeah, we should have just left the o-lineman in Iowa City, they aren't doing much of anything anyways.

Vepr

They cannot score going into half. I am not sure if it would matter if we stop them though I think we have lost because adjustment at half has never been this group of coaches strong point.

Some of you need to take a freaking nap. When you get up, fix yourself a drink and then sit quietly for a few minutes.

Offense looks horrible, mostly the O-Line. This is pretty much what ISU's offense has looked like, however they haven't had the big turnovers they've had the past two weeks. We need to find a way to create one.

Vepr
09-15-2007, 02:01 PM
Well in the end even though our defense is not playing the greatest this one is on our offense so far. 12 points is not a big deal in a half especially when it is all on field goals. Our offense sucks rocks. They are keeping the defense on the field by not getting any first downs. Not sure if it is just crappy coaching or the offensive players especially the line just have their heads up their ass. I would hope the coaches are cussing the team and themselves in the locker room. 59 total yards of offense is pathetic.

I agree. Kirk is a middle of the road coach at this point. He had a few good years where a number of walk ons and lower end players turned out to be very special. We caught a number of breaks and bounces during those years as well.

Now it appears we are back to the Kirk who coached at Maine. His downfall in coaching will be that he is far too loyal. He should have changed coordinators 2 years ago not to mention that we have had way too many off the field problems.

This game was a watershed game for Iowa. It was the game that showed if we had truly learned from the past and had a new attitude for the future.

It appears nothing has changed. Nothing.

Going up a against a team that has lost its last two games in convincing fashion the last one being to UNI you would hope your team would at least look like they belonged on the same field with them at half. Right now it looks like ISU is playing Central Iowa.

It is as though some of you have never seen a team lose a football game before.

...yeah, you know if it doesn't matter why pay a football coach $3mm a year?

Who said it didn't matter? Just come back to me with a statement that doesn't involve the coach's pay (for the 10th time) and gain yourself a little credibility.

ess- you nailed it bud. i've been questioning the all mighty kirk and his gang for awhile now, but nobody seems to listen. the dude has won only 52% of his games at iowa. i understand that he had a 'bare cupboard' when he got here, but give me a break. the program is going backwards.

Nothing.

Just to be clear, I was talking to you specifically.

Thanks, pussy.

Glad you are happy with the way things are going.

I will give you this though. The second half will make or break the entire year.

Try not to be a total idiot for just a minute.

You're jumping WAY overboard, I've seen little 5 year old girls show better football knowledge then this.

The first half was awful, but you're basing opinions of an entire program on that one half. It's stupid enough to scream and hollar about a game that's only 50% completed based on one half, forget the whole PROGRAM.

We're down less then two scores. Chill.

When people around the Big Ten say Iowa has the dumbest football fans in terms of game knowledge (and many of them DO say that) it's guys like you (at least today) that they're talking about.

I stand by what I said and I don't think I am out of line at all. The program has been shit for the last 3 years. No matter how you try to paint it, we are 3 years removed from 2004 and have yet to see anything that says we will crawl out of the hole back to the top.

Again, if we lose to Iowa State today, a team that got killed by Kent State and UNI then I would have to say my opinions of this game regarding the Iowa program would be abcolutely valid.
