I'll admit it. I really thought the Hawks would get blown out by 30 tonight (before I knew Freeman was playing). I gave them absolutely no shot of winning even with Tony in the rotation.
I knew there was a reason I didn't give up on this team.

I'm not going to get lost in the individual ups and downs of this season. I'm sticking with what I said at the outset: I'm very excited about this team, and I'm looking forward to watching them play. I'll be very happy if they get to .500.

The Hawks should be tough once Coach Lick can get some good players in.

Totally agree. Winning with this group any time is pretty incredible. They aren't good but something is working. I think in 2-3 years, we may have a winner.

Read the article in today's register...the locker room was left in a messy state, so coach pulled the team, after a big road win, off the bus to go back and clean it. I really like this guy.

Still, to take a crappy team on the road and win is good. We could have easily gotten blown out in this game, or do the Steve Alfraud patented "Lose by a little after being up with 2 minutes left in the game".
I'll admit that I haven't watched every game this season due to travel, but I don't think we've blown 2 17 point leads in the same game yet under Lick, have we?

Not saying it isn't.
But if you lose to Michigan this year, you are the worst team in the Big 10. Hands down.

On that I agree. I was buying into the whole rebuilding/new system and only lucky to win one big ten game this year. Instead, we beat MSU at home and Michigan on the road.
I project we will take 2-3 more and end up 3 from bottom. That's a lot better than 1 win.

It's a road win in the Big Ten. I will take it with the talent on this team. Look at MSU's loss at Carver, it is not always easy to win on the road.

I'm not sure what to think of Michigan State yet. They have some good wins, but they look like a pretty overrated team at this point.

On what basis would you make that claim?
Their only loss besides Iowa is UCLA, by 5 points in Kansas City in mid-November.
They've got two wins over Minnesota, a win over Ohio State, a virtual road win v. Missouri, a virtual road win over Brigham Young, a win over Purdue, and a win over Texas.
They don't impress, but only North Carolina, Tennessee, and Kansas have more Top 100 wins so far.

Fair enough.
They're too turnover-prone for me to expect much of them in March.
But I don't think they can be overrated given they've accomplished more than just about anyone.

Madison's been all over the board. Pomeroy has them real high- #4- and they've several good victories. They lost to Marquette but played pretty well and they won in Austin.
But...that performance against Duke. And the performance tonight. Talk about your red flags.

Nah, it's not too early. The team will exceed expectations this season and lay some great groundwork for the future. Within a couple of years, the Hawkeye Basketball Tradition will be reestablished. I firmly believe that.

The quality of play may return, but it's going to take longer than 2 years to get fan enthusiasm back to where it used to be.

The biggest problem will be with the generation that grew up not knowing who Tom Davis is - they've never experienced Hawkeye BB and don't know how good it can be. (There were better years, mind you, but if they don't know who Tom Davis is, then they sure don't know who Lute is).

It's unfair to expect this of a young team, but they've got an opportunity ahead of them here in the next 10 days or so - games against West Virginia, possibly Kentucky, and Boston College. If this team wins a couple of those games, people are going to notice. I'd expect to see some good December crowds if they're able to get a few wins in this next set of games.
