This kid adds an offer from Kansas to go along with USC, Iowa, Indiana, Maryland, et al.

Rumor has it Texas has offered as well, but that is unconfirmed.

For sure a top 20 kid in 2010, and a 5-star recruit. I'd like to say Iowa has an advantage, but I just don't think so.

I don't see that Iowa has any sort of realistic shot at Barnes. He will end up having his pick of nationally prominent programs. If he would rather stay local, ISU is where is father played and he lives in Ames.

Let's call this the equivalent of the Matt Gatens situation, with the one difference being that Barnes will have a LOT more top 20 type programs to choose from. Do you think that ISU would have been able to walk into Iowa City and get Gatens to join the Cyclones?

Unfortunately I think that this one is a pipe dream.

He's from Ames. His father played at Iowa State.

How do you think Iowa has an advantage?

Weird -- I just read this thread and then received an email notification on Outlook. The sender's name? Harrison Barnes.

(It was junk mail though, something about federal student loan consolidation).

Isn't that some kind of recruiting violation?

Throughout the recruiting process, it was always known that Gatens was a huge Iowa fan who dreamed of playing for the Hawks. I'm not saying that he would have still chosen Iowa with offers similar to Barnes's, but I haven't read anything comparable about Barnes relationship with ISU.

Barnes was just named the #6 rated player in his class by Rivals. While I'd like to think that Iowa has a shot at him, in reality they don't. He's a Duke, Kansas, N.C. caliber of player who has no ties to the U of I.

Not the type of recruit that I expect we'll see much of under the Lickliter regime, which may in the end be fine...

Even prior to the Duke offer, I don't think he will end up in Iowa City.

I don't think Iowa has an advantage. I think he is going out of state and if he does stay in state, it will be in Ames.

i don't understand why Kotz can insist that this kid is a lock for the Hawks.

Kotz didn't say Barnes was a lock, he just said this:

Iowa definitely has the advantage.

I don't know if Kotz has any sort of inside information or something, but he's the only one I've really heard guarantee that Barnes chooses Iowa.
