Came out yesterday. Iowa tied for third in the Big Ten: 8-4, Outback Bowl vs. LSU. Blurbs about how Jake will be better and solid WRs. Not surprise: Kirk listed as on the Hot Seat.

Quite optimistic view.
If this team plays LSU in the Outback Bowl, they'll get crushed.

Just like last time they played them in a NYD game, right? I'm not sure it can be said that this squad would be more undermanned than that one was.

If this team plays LSU in the Outback Bowl, they probably turned out to be better than anyone expected, and therefore it's silly to make such a statement.

Different teams.. Different teams.
I would pick that 04 team over this year's team anyday.

Without having seen this year's team play a game....Brilliant.
If we end up playing LSU again we will have our hands full. A lot of talent on both sides of the ball and both their offensive and defensive lines should be nasty this year.
Some dude from the BTN on Cotlar this morning said Iowa really impressed him. I have been unusually pessimistic about this year's team, and yet here I am beginning to hope.
8-4 would be fantastic, but I just can't see how the Hawks get there, without marked improvement from every position.

Shonn Greene's scalp infection has returned me to my prior funk, at least temporarily.
I did not see the televised practice on the BTN but people where saying JC looked like he had not improved from last year. I am guessing it would be hard to get a read on someone on the limited coverage that was offered but does anyone else share the opinion that JC has picked right back up where he left off last year? I was not expecting miracles but if there is really no improvement at QB we could be in for a long year regardless of the other pieces in place.

Yeah, pretty much...yet the coaches and the media had high praise for him, they're watching a different game it appears. The kid from Keokuk throws a great ball, and looked better than the Weinke kid, just my opinion from the little clips.
I also find it interesting, how last year I read (hawkeyereport.com) that Marvin McNutt was great, wasn't impressive in the Spring Game nor that televised practice. Actually really bad from his drills. Probably can get better....but he's about two years away.

I just laugh how there are people making judgment on the QBs based on seeing them each do about 6-8 plays during a 7-on-7 drill in the fourth practice of fall camp.

I thought JC looked ok in what they showed. Read into it what you want, but the limited amount they showed JV on the program, he looked like he could put the ball anywhere he wants, and hit Peterson in stride on a Post for about 40 yards.

...just observations from the scrimmage, nothing definitive.

I wasn't calling you out. I just know there are many people out there (i.e. HR) who will be saying ridiculous things based on this 1.5 hour practice show.

And now there is a thread over there breaking down the 7-on-7 drill.

I'm hoping for an Alamo Bowl berth so I can take the family down there for a week. I've got the time off at work - now they just need to make it happen.

I've also decided an Alamo Bowl will be the trip this year. Although I wouldn't complain having a Florida game, either.

I'm excited - it'll be my first bowl game to attend. If they make another, I may not take the whole family but just fly in for two days and back out. San Antonio, however, appears to be a fabulous family vacation.
