Looks like the Gophers and Illini are the teams we only play once.

Going into Big Ten play, I think we can get to eight wins.

Texas-San Antonio W 1-0
The Citadel W 2-0
Oakland W 3-0
Southeast Missouri State W 4-0
Las Vegas Invitational Las Vegas, NV
West Virginia L 4-1
Kansas State/Kentucky No game
Boston College L 4-2
Bryant University W 5-2
Northern Iowa / Iowa State Split these games 6-3
Drake W 7-3
Western Illinois W 8-3

After that, if we can go .500 in the Big Ten season, we'd end up at 17-12. We'd need to see a marked improvement from last year's squad that went 6-12 in conference, but I think it can be done.

Kansas State/Kentucky No game

I think we would play one of them regardless of the first games outcome. So tack on another loss.

That sucks we don't play the Gophers on the road. It's typically my only chance to see the Hawks play.

And I forgot the Charleston Southern game, so make that 9-4 going into the Big Ten season.

Am I hallucinating, or is this the 58th year in a row we open the season in Columbus?

Last year we opened in Iowa City versus Indiana. Year before, it was a home game with MSU. 06 was a home game versus Wisconsin. 05 was a home game versus Michigan. 04 was a home game versus Purdue. 03 was at Northwestern. 02 was a home game versus Wisconsin. 01 was at Penn State.

So, yeah, you're hallucinating. :p

...FWIW, it appears that we often have played OSU in Columbus during the first 3-4 games of the conference season, but it hasn't been the opener anytime recently.

The end of January could be tough. A three-game stretch:

vs. MSU
@ Illinois
@ Indiana

Still debating on the Vegas weekend trip... might be the only chance I'll have to catch a live game.

Are those two expected to be any good?

Indiana will finish 11th. I expect to beat them twice this year. Illinois will be decent, but not in the top tier (Michigan State, Purdue, Wisconsin).

They are still road games at Assembly Hall's. I don't care how bad the teams are, those are tough places to play.

Agreed on that point. And I wouldn't go out on a limb and predict a win at Illinois anyway.

Damn, I actually can't wait 'til Illinois loses a game in the pre-conference season, or a player gets arrested. Redbirdhawk is always in rare form on such occasions.
