This is absurd. Absolutely ridiculous. Streaming games, ESPNU which isn't offered unless you pay for a sports package that includes it and a bunch of "who gives a shit" channels, games not even televised at all.
This sucks ass.
Remember the good old days when fans could watch their frigging team?

Was it? My neighbor here has DTV and wasn't getting it. Are there different lineups for different cities? I thought there was another game recently where the DTV people weren't getting it too.

I've got Dish Network, and ESPNU is only available on their super-über package. Fuck that.

TH is right, you have to have the sports pack. It's like an extra $12/month. I just forgot to cancel after baseball season.

I could have got it on Mediacom but they won't fix my cable and blame my sports package not working on my apartment building.

It's true. They've been here 5 times and they just swap out my box every time, and finally said they'd have to rewire the building. They won't give me a DVR either.

Neither is health care for that matter. But people keep bitching about the cost of it. And I'll damn well keep bitching about paying for something I used to get free too.

There's a minor difference between health care and basketball. I'm not going to say what it is, but there is a difference I can assure you.

There's a hell of a lot better argument for it than there is for your whining here. Y'all talk about the free market....here's your free market. The Big Ten and ESPN can make more money restricting their product and selling it for a premium than they can for giving it away free!

The answer to the original question is Friday night. The Bryant game is on the BTN Friday night at 7:00. The UNI game next Tuesday is on ESPNU, but next Friday's tilt with ISU is on the BTN. Then the Drake and Western Illinois games are both on ESPNU. After that, Big Ten play begins and every game the rest of the year will be on either the BTN or ESPN.

These games on ESPNU aren't the BTN's fault. The streaming games are (and that pisses me off), but the games on ESPNU are games for which ESPN had the broadcast rights. The reason they're getting pushed to ESPNU this year is that Iowa sucks.

How did ESPN get all these games? It wasn't long ago that everything was on my local FOX affiliate.

I think that has more to do with which feeds your local affiliate purchase - like in football, where the local CBS stations used to run the ESPN+ broadcasts. I'll admit that I'm not as familiar with the basketball arrangement as football.

So if ESPN cares so little that they are running the games on ESPNFU, why not sell the rights locally? I'm pissed.

I have no idea. ESPNU is a pretty shitty network. IIRC, it has even less of a national broadcast footprint than the BTN.

And to address the free market thing - at some point the University needs to understand that widespread access to Hawkeye games is important to them.
Hawkeye BB support is at an all time low. It's hard to generate excitement for it (and thus game ticket sales, T-shirt sales, etc.) if the games are being streamed online, televised on ESPNU, or televised on the BTN when Mediacom doesn't show them (addressed, but hurt them badly last year).

I wonder if you could afford the DTV sports pack if you'd have just stopped at 4 kids instead of 5....
Just sayin'... :)
