...otherwise Lickliter's tenure will be short. This team might be o.k. playing a Horizon League schedule, but not in the Big Ten. Teams are getting better in the league, I'm afraid this system doesn't market itself to recruiting good players.
Are Eric May and Brendan Cougill going to put Iowa over the top next year?
I disagree.
One senior on the team gets good minutes and he didn't play in the secon half. They still almost beat the #19 team.
They are young. VERY young.

What they need, desperately, is a PG.

With ZERO athletes, sans Gatens.
They are redshirting Little Lick for a reason. Just wait :)
Let me clarify. I agree they could use some more talent, but they have the players (Gatens, Tucker, Cole, Peterson, Fuller, Kelley, Balwinkle) in place to play well...in a year or two.

Good grief. This is his second season. And Tate was injured tonight.
Athletes will come. There may just be a few HS BB players that are interested in the team concept.

Couldn' disagree more. This team is nowhere without JP on the court. I'm not going to pretend he's the greatest PG since BJ or Andre, but this team is lost w/o him.
JP gets a bad rap IMO.

I don't have you for being wrong. :D
8 TOs.
Peterson is the best PG that Iowa has, but that doesn't make him a good PG.

Correction- A broken hand Peterson is the best we have.

May is a Mo Valley type player.
he reminds me of Brandon Myers.

How many times have you seen him play? Once? Twice?
Truth is, if he's good enough to be a good Mo Valley player, he's good enough to play for Iowa at this point. In another era, he woudln't have been good enough to come to Iowa City as anything more than a walk-on, but right now, Iowa could use players like May.
Look at it this way - he's taking J.R. Angle's spot on the roster. Even if he rides the pine, he's a better bench player than Angle.
Speaking of JR Angle. Dude has aged 30 years since he came to Iowa.
Who knew that sitting on the Iowa basketball bench and being President of the U.S. had so much in common?

I think May will be a solid bench player. Hes not a difference maker nor do I see him ever starting. Hes not an upgrade over what weve been getting during the Alford era. Ive seen him play 4 times.
People act like Iowa is the mecca for basketball talent. Iowa has had 7 players since 1990 taken in the first two rounds of the NBA draft, and only 4 of them played all four years. This is the type of talent Iowa gets.

Yep. And that's why Lick is, to me, the ideal coach for us. He will be able to get the absolute most out of kids and develop them more than other coaches would be able to. That's exactly what the program needs - good player development, good attitudes, team concept.
That's why Alford failed.

Completely agree. Tom Davis was also perfect in a different sense. He had a gimmicky gameplan which worked with Iowa talent.
