Any Decemberists fans? Anybody listened to the new album? What do you think?

It took a few listens for me to get into, however after listening to it all week on my drive to and from work, I'm really liking it a lot. Not as much like their earlier work, but the story is pretty cool. I'd say the music is a darker mix between The Tain EP and The Crane Wife. Not as upbeat and poppy as earlier releases and a lot more distorted guitars. It's a break from the norm for them, but still pretty darn good.

The Rake Song is one of the few stand alone songs from the album, but is outstanding. Definitely worth a listen.

Agree with everything you posted. I enjoy the album but it doesn't stick with me like The Crane Wife does.

Good to hear.
I dig the Decemberists, but haven't heard the new album (only the Rake Song). It's on my list (evergrowing) of stuff I need to purchase.
