By an Italian Lawyer Giuliano Mignini who is claiming she and her boyfriend are in a Satanic cult that killed Amanda's roommate. Magnini's inspiration is a 'psychic' who writes a blog and talks to dead priests and an elderly lady who could hear people running across the street with her windows closed.

They have no proof or evidence Knox was involved, in fact they have already jailed a man that they found dna of at the scene for the murder.

Watching 48 Hours on this, and it's pretty disturbing that this is going down. What can the US do should they want to act?

The kicker is Magnini is under indictment for abuse of office but is still allowed to continue his case.

I've read about this a little. It's getting some big air play in the Italian media. Apparently they're portraying this girl as some sort of femme fatale.

It appears Magnini is using her as a straw man as a means to sweep his own abuse of power charges under the rug.

This is an interesting dynamic/tension in Italy. Despite the catholics having had a serious strong hold for centuries (think Vatican City); Italy is one of just a few geographic areas* that can claim a unbroken pagan (witch) lineage that spans to centuries before christ's birth despite the brutal and bloody reformation movements over the centuries to eradicate the practices. Those who continue to practice it view it as a family tradition while simultaneously generally denying it, and this doesn't sit well with the Catholic majority who characterize it as satanic.

The traditions generally do involve sacrifice of animals, such as swans, ducks, mockingbirds, etc. (but not humans). For example, a typical ritual for a female having trouble conceiving would involve creating a packet lined with bird feathers and then swabs of her menstrual blood, a snippet of her husband's hair and then also some fertilized bird eggs close to gestation. The packet is then buried in the couple's yard (think upside down madonna in the front yard of catholics trying to sell their home); or cast into a water source.

*The witches in the US, despite their secretiveness, are a joke and although they claim their practices are thousands of years old, their rituals can actually be dated back no further than the late 19th century, and even then, largely invented at that time.

Actually...it is not like saying Austria isn't in Europe. Austria is not simply surrounded by Europe, it is a part of Europe.

Vatican City may be surrounded by Italy, but it is not part of Italy, but rather it's own sovereign state.

Austria is in Europe because it is a member of Europe. Also, geographically, it lies within the region deemed "Europe."

Vatican City, while geographically surrounded by the region called "Italy," is not a part of Italy (read: not a member). It's totally sovereign, which is what the poster you quoted was indicating. Just because it is surrounded by Italy does not mean it is located within Italy. The use of that particular preposition, no matter the geography, will also make your statement a false one.

From what I've seen is the prosecutor basically is trying to hit a homerun (convicting an American) so his abuse of power charges are swept under the rug.

There is NO dna evidence that Amber Knox or her boyfried were at the crime scene. They do have dna evidence of another man who had no connection to Knox or her BF being at the scene and admitting to such. They have testimony from a kookaloo who talks to dead priests. And a bunch of other spooky stuff that has no basis in fact.

The Italian authorities were accused of physically abusing Knox and employed the same interrogation processes they do to mafia type suspects. She was a 19 year old, in a foreign country.

Not sure why but this case really bothers me, I feel for her parents and for her, and question why this case hasn't gotten a sliver of the coverage the Amanda Holloway case did by the cable networks.

I don't know she may be guilty, but I've seen nothing in my knowledge of the case to lead me to believe this isn't a power play to keep a fat Italian Prosecutor out of prison at the expense of the 'decadent american'.

I was reading about this case a little after this thread last night. Apparently one of the prosecution's main points is that she had some manga comic books in her room where the main characters killed vampires, and the girl who was murdered had dressed up as a vampire for Halloween or something.

What's not helping her is her changing story about whether or not she was there that night. She may be guilty, but you're right, it doesn't seem like they have much evidence that she was the one who actually killed the girl (which is what they're charging her with).

as far as posts I think you are correct. Thread views are a different story. This thread has over 25000 views. It would rank # 3 in the legendary forum. Above the 2008 cubs thread that ran for an entire baseball season. When I work til 5 am and there are only 2 members logged on there are always 10-20 guests. My understanding is that the other guy already pled guilty and is testifying against her. I might be wrong, though. Although it's not impossible, the likelyhood that the prosecutor is making up a case rather than her being the actual killer is low. She probably killed the other girl. She's lied about being there, has she not? And from what I heard on the news the other dude will testify (or has?) that she put the knife to her throat in some sort of a sex game...then finished the deal.

I mean, who is 60 minutes interviewing? Her parents? They'll lie like all parents would. They'll make her case. Never trust the parents.

I don't really get the argument that the prosecutor is using this case to mask the separate ethics charges. What does one have to do with another?

Just went and found this thread because I just finished The Monster of Florence. If you want some insight into the Italian justice system read that book. More specfically if you want some insight into how lead prosecuter Mignini works, read the book.
He operates on wild theories without evidence. Suppresses criticism, taps everyone's phones, doctors recorded calls. It's unbelievable he's still in office after the Monster of Florence case.
I don't know the details of the Amanda Knox case, but I'm inclined to believe she was in the wrong place at the wrong time and is the victim of some incompetent police work.

Still #3 for "Amanda Knox Railroaded" and I still like her boobs.

The Italians should have a live webcam...

A heat wave across Italy this week has made her life in jail even more uncomfortable than usual.

"There's no air-conditioning in the cell and it's been more than 40C degrees in Perugia," said Mrs Mellas. "It is excruciatingly hot and humid, really unbearable."

If you really want your blood to boil, Google "Schapelle Corby." She's an Australia serving 20 years in a Bali prison for importation of 9 lbs of weed. The case is so flimsy it's laughable.

Having been to Bali and other parts of Indonesia before, I was warned by locals that the cops will try to frame Westerners on bogus drug charges. The conditions in prison are Third World, at best.

I'll be the first to admit I haven't read the entire thread, but do you know her or her family? You seem preoccupied with this.

Also, are you familiar with the term "ugly American"? Terms such as "ugly American" and "radical Muslim", etc. come into popular usage for a reason.

I'm not saying Amanda was an "ugly American", however, it is possible that she is paying the price for Italians have come to view American visitors generally.

Seems like her appeal is going well and that its really shady that she was convicted in the first place.

Hell yeah.

In a thug move, Perugia prosecutors sent two police patrols to Rome today and tried to seize a DVDfrom the court-appointed independent experts who testified Monday in the Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito appeals trial, according to Perugia-based blogger Frank Sfarzo. (http://perugiashock.com/2011/07/26/conti-and-vecchiotti-the-police-at-the-door/)

This latest harassment follows threats by police forensic scientist Patrizia Stefanoni to sue the experts for “false statements” supposedly made in their 145-page, meticulously argued report. After a five-month investigation, the experts reject the forensics investigation, call the DNA tests “unreliable,” and identify 54 glaring mistakes (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3713281/Knox-evidence-bungled-by-cops.html) that could free the two college students.

The former lovers are appealing their conviction for the murder of British student Meredith Kercher, Amanda’s flatmate. Their new, evidence-based trial has exposed the police investigation as Pink Pantherish and the lab work as shamelessly slipshod.

Sounds like we could know by Monday.

Here's an article with some examples of the extreme ridiculousness of this whole ordeal: http://abcnews.go.com/International/critics-knox-prosecutor-giuliano-mignini-seeking-revenge-redemption/story?id=14623904

The prosecutor is a bozo:

Mignini was more than humiliated. He was criminally indicted for prosecutorial misconduct -- specifically, the illegal wiretapping of journalists' phones. Though Mignini claimed the tapping was properly authorized, that charge was still hanging over him in 2007, when Meredith Kercher was murdered in Perugia.

When the Knox case fell into Mignini's lap, Preston said the prosecutor saw it as a God-send.

"Here was a case that could redeem him," he said. "Here was a case that could save his career."

Italians are stupid:

"It's very common among Italians to believe that yes, there are many satanic sects out there that are operating," he said. "And very often crimes in Italy that are strange or horrific ... Immediately people start talking about, 'Oh, satanic sects are behind it.'"

And finally, WTF?:
As for Kercher's DNA that was supposedly found on the knife, testing revealed it was not actually human DNA but a speck of flour and starch that likely came from rye bread.

I haven't really followed the Amanda Knox trial. However, last night I did take a look at the "evidence", and DNA problems aside, I'm sure she had something to do with the murder. I'm not saying she actually committed the murder, but she had some involvement.

Yep. Her involvement consisted of being falsely accused and imprisoned for four years because Italians believe in witches.

So apparently Amanda has moved into an apartment with her new boyfriend. Probably a smart thing to do a month after being released from four years in jail.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2064350/Amanda-Knox-taking-Special-Forces-self-defence-classes-Seattle-gym.html

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/11/21/article-0-0ECC1D5B00000578-271_306x423.jpg

Also from the article:

The couple moved in to a £950-a-month apartment in Seattle’s rundown Chinatown area.

I have to question how "rundown" the area is if they're requiring rent be paid in pounds.
