My parents were there over the weekend to see some relatives. They found out that a film crew had just started filming there. A remake of some 70's film called The Crazies. It sounded like a b-movie. But then my parents say that Kevin Costner was originally supposed to be in it...he declined and instead the main actor is Timothy Olyphant from Deadwood/Gone in 60 Seconds/Hitman.
Also...that baseball movie that was filmed in the Quad Cities a couple years ago, Sugar is starting to get some very good reviews. It was shown at the Sundance festival this past winter.

It's about some insane people based in Kansas. I still can't figure out why they're filming in Lenox...or little Mexico as we used to call it.

Yeah, I heard there's a ton there that work at that egg plant. I guess it's better than filming in Prescott which is even smaller.

Being from Creston, and knowing they're filming a movie called 'The Crazies', filming it anywhere but Creston just isn't doing the title justice.

But maybe they wanted an even smaller town and Lenox beats Creston in that regard.
A friend of mine is making some good money on the weekends in the Iowa movie industry (no, not porn). Something to do with recent tax incentives for companies to film here.

I guess there's another film being shot in Davenport now but I don't know the details of it.

My 7 year old nephew was selected to be in that movie. He had a short speaking role in it (nothing major). I think it's pretty cool.
Also, I guess since he had a speaking role, he's qualified for his SAG card. My sister is going to pay the dues or whatever just so he can techinically be a member.

You can make nice cash from housing cast & crew as well.
They just filmed a movie called SPLATTER (I guess about paint ball fight and some sort of romance?) in Burlington 2 weekends ago. They did casting in CR, I think. My nephew tried for a speaking part but didn't get it. But he got to be in the paint ball fight for the movie.

They are filming in Washington right now. Story line sounds ridiculous to me.

Yes. I sounds really super gay. I'm not sure who is funding it, but it's someone who probably doesn't plan on making any money.

The movie director of The Crazies decided to shoot the film in Lenox because of the baseball field which their high school baseball coach Steve Westphal has worked hard over the years to make it one of the best in Southwest Iowa. The field was not in the best shape when Westphal arrive in 1978.

So I watched part of The Crazies last night. If I ever go to Lenox, what will I recognize from the movie?
Oh yeah, Sugar was a horrible, horrible movie. Other than recognizing sites from eastern Iowa, that movie has no redeeming value.

Yeah, every game we ever had at Lenox the same joke was said...
"Did you hear about the guy that died in that barn because he couldn't find a corner to piss in."
Yeah teenagers are dumb.

I have the same feelings with The Experiment. Could of been good with terrible character development.

Anyone see the haunted special that had one of its' locations on a house in Villisca? 1912 family, plus visitors were murdered with an axe and/or the handle. Absolutely brutal murder. No one ever caught. The house has never had any other living occupants. The mother and children still hang around supposedly as well as the evil presence of the murderer.

Villisca Axe Murder House, if you want, you can pay them an they will let you do a overnight stay in that house. Me and few friends were going to do it a few years back but couldn't find a weekend that would work for us.

I had never heard of this before, but found this website:

The history is a fascinating read. The paranormal stuff, not so much.

Mom stayed there about 5 years ago, I believe.
I've driven past that place hundreds of times. It's a creepy place for sure.
