From Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports:

Mariners pull Clement from minor-league game — Updated 9:49 a.m.

The Mariners removed former first-round pick Jeff Clement from a Class AAA Tacoma game on Tuesday and later informed him that he is about to be traded, one major-league source told FOXSports.com.
The Indians, Red Sox and Pirates are among the teams that have scouted Tacoma recently, the source said, but it's not clear if any of those clubs are involved in the imminnent trade. Clement was the Mariners' first-round pick in 2005 but has never had sustained success in the big leagues. He's a career .237 hitter in 75 major-league games as a catcher and designated hitter.

I think a change of scenery would do him some good. I'm not sure he would ever get a fair shot with Seattle, although he didn't do himself any favors by not hitting well when he was called up.

maybe the Hellickson rumors are true as well.. they called him up to triple a and he went 6 and gave up 2 in his first start..I think he goes again today for the Durham Bulls.

I've heard the Rays are after Victor Martinez from Cleveland, with the Indians wanting both Wade Davis and Hellickson in return.

I doubt the Rays would trade both, but they do have a ton of pitching talent in their farm system, so you never know.

I would love to see Hellickson in Cleveland. I've always thought that would be a great spot for him.

I hope Jeff gets traded and gets a chance to play a full season in the bigs. He tore it up at the end of last year for the Mariners. Problem is, his catching is suspect(especially with his knee), DH might be the spot for him, which drastically limits his options.

can he be called up at the end of the year even if hes not on the 40 man roster?

I don't think so. I believe he'd have to be added to the 40 man.

He'd have to be added tothe 40 man to be called up, but usually by this time of year the teams know that a minor leaguer on the 40 doesn't really need to be or they can shift someone from the 15 day DL to the 60 day DL to open up a spot.

Clement to the Pirates with some others for Ian Snell and Jack Wilson. With LaRoche going to the Red Sox, maybe Clement gets a shot to start at 1B.

That's too bad, the Pirates have a decent catcher in Doumit.

pretty good numbers:

Clement, Seattle's first-round pick and the third overall selection in the 2005 draft, was hitting .288 with 33 doubles, 14 home runs, 68 RBIs and 65 runs scored at Triple-A Tacoma in the Pacific Coast League.

The Pirates press release calls Clement a first basemen so we can assume thats where he'll be playing.

I think they switched him earlier this year to 1B.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "tearing it up". But I don't think it's very accurate.

He did hit .325 in August before he tore his knee up and missed the rest of last season. That is borderline "tearing it up".

He started off horribly in 2008. Then, mid season, it hit his stride, even had a 2 HR game and I believe two walk off HRs in a row. I think he took his average from the low .100's up to .227 in the last two months of the season, which means he was actually batting well into the .300s for his last 2-3 mos. IIRC.

Umm no what? wrong about the two walk-offs in a row, that was actually 2 in 3 games back in the fall of 2007. the rest is accurate

Interesting. Good for him, hopefully he finally gets a legit chance.

i have jim at 25 for 78 his last month, a solid .320 avg. his other stats were: 7 runs, 7 xtra base hits, 0 hr 12 rbi. His avg. dropped 20 pts the month prior (.188 to .165).

What, exactly, point are you trying to make?

it's nice that you grew up next to him and know him and all but you obviously haven't been following his career very closely.

let's recap.

you said:

1.He hit .300 over the last 2-3 months. Wrong
2. He hit back to back walk-offs. Wrong, although you then tried to say that was in 07, as if that still counts towards your initial argument that he was on a tear in 08
3. He had a 2 HR game. right.
4. and finally, you are trying to say that a guy hits 18 singles out of 25 hits, 0 hrs, and he is "on a tear". Holy shit, HOF here he comes.

and I'm the rah-tard
