View Full Version : thoughts on the game

the defense and punting games are championship quality.

Kick return and kickoff coverage are below average.

Why is AJ Edds on the hands team? He looked turrible on the onsides kick.

Hunter is outplaying Angerer and Edds at this point.

Wegher is the great white hope but Robinson is the better rb right now.

One day Brett Greenwood will tell his grandkids he got to play with Tyler Sash.

Overall our WRs are below average and teams with fast secondaries will negate our passing game.

This DL may end up as good as the Roth/Babineaux crew.

Cato needs to be on the field more often.

It was good to see the defense wrapping up and tackling, this could be a very stout defense by years end.

You hit the nail on the head about our reciveing corp although I expect a maturation process.

The O-line is looking better, good push. As our RB's gain experieince and confidence I expect you will see our running game improve and that will help the passing game, of course.

completely agree, except for the WR comment. we were missing our two biggest threats and we still had guys consistently open against a very good defensive backfield. ricky just needs to learn how to process what he sees on the field and use it to the find them.

ya i think the WR core as a group is as good as iowa has had in a long time

McNutt and Chaney and even Davis could be good ones. Wasn't it Davis that caught one short of the first and outran the guys around him for the first?

If we're thinking of the same play, that was Chaney.

yes. I don't think Davis had any catches.

Clayborn put a huge hit on a dude on that onside kick. I would love to see a replay of that. He demolished the guy.

I think the WR group is average. The main thing this WR group needs to do is catch the ball.

I thought the Arizona secondary was very good. They made some very solid tackles on 1 on 1 plays.

I had forgot that DJK was out, that is s good point. I do still agree with NLP that our receivers are not playing to their potential.....yet. I am optimistic they will as there is talent there.

The defense, if it can eliminate some of the big plays that it gives up, will carry us this season.

The LBs have seemed very average thus far, but I think that has to do with the scheme we run and the fact that the Arizona game was the first game that the DLine showed up at. And this is a very encouraging thing. Clayborn awakening yesterday is huge.

Robinson vs Wegher... I'm not so sure that one is absolutely better than the other at this point. I think Wegher has better vision - Robinson misses quite a few cut backs on zone blocking plays, whereas Wegher seems to "get it" a bit better. But regardless, I think it is safe to say that next season we'll have three very good backs.

Cato's first and goal play was one of the most important plays all day long. And it was made by (I can't remember which one) a DLineman pushing his assignment straight back into the backfield and disrupting the play.

Ballard is the guy who shoved his blocker backwards about three yards, making Cato's play possible.

maybe now's a good time for you to prove to monster that you are able to admit when you are wrong by admitting that you were wrong about greenwood

greenwood is a very good b10 safety and all the griping about him has never made any sense at all.

greenwood was excellent yesterday, and made several 1 on 1 tackles near the line of scrimmage

Greenwood has played better the last couple weeks, but watch the UNI game sometime. He played very poorly.

greenwood is a very good football player and a classic walkon success story. all the griping about him from the armchair crowd is fucking retarded and it gets old fast.

especially now that he is proving so many of the message board "experts" wrong, even tho the vast majority of them will never show up to eat their crow

I was annoying my gf with 1.) my drunkardness and 2.) my ability to call 75% of Iowa's plays pre-snap.

Could someone please youtube a hitch and go or a pump fake and send the results to KOK and Ricky Stanzi. Stanzi made me nervous as hell yesterday. He was telegraphing shit badly

Also, I agree that our kick coverage teams suck donkey balls

Defense is stout though

I imagine that the vast majority of the Hawkeyes are very proud to play with a person and player the caliber of Brett Greenwood. All the hate in the world from nolookpass won't change anything that actually matters, so it is best to quite arguing with someone who has zero capabilities of admitting he is wrong.

This is deliciously ironic coming from someone that jocks MH on a routine basis.

Just got done re-watching the game.

I am impressed with both Robinson and Wegher in their pass blocking, especially with picking up the blitz. They both do a pretty good job with it.

I love our defensive line.

I agree with nolook, Hunter has been the best LB so far this season.

I really like our depth at RB and WR. We won't kill you with speed at WR, but we have a lot of quality guys who can catch, run decent enough routes and are really good at run blocking.

I think the coaches could convert Ivan_Drago into a quality TE.

I fully expect some kind of trick play or play action off that Chaney reverse play we ran three times on Saturday. KOK is setting something up down the line. We don't run a play like that three times in the same game.

Donahue is a beast.

I am pumped for this upcoming Saturday. If Stanzi can play a whole game like he has in the second half this season and we have a really good football team.

"hate?"

Im just glad Greenwood is white or with your type of "logic", Id be a racist.

I think hes a very average football player and I hope he proves me wrong. We've played one good QB this year..and Grace had a pretty good day. Lets see what happens next weekend.

Davis threw an incredible block on McNutt's 'almost' TD run after the catch. Keenan blocked his guy a good 7-10 yards, pushing him down the field.

Donahue is sick. Watching him warm up is entertainment in itself. He came out with about 2 minutes left in Halftime, and booted one from the S. 35 yard line that landed about 5 feet in front of the N. bleachers, through the uprights! 75-80 yards, in the air, I shit you not.

Clayborn had their run plays sniffed out really well. As soon as his man would pull, Clayborn would get about 3 yards deep in the backfield and chase the play like a mad man. Hopefully, he's prepared for PSU to bring that shit back the other way on him.

I usually don't like to heap praise on a kicker, much less a punter. But honestly, Donahue may save us a game or two this season. He's that good.

Remember the good old days of calling him Shanky on this board? We've all been pwned.

If there's one thing that's been proven the past 10 years or so...don't bag on a freshman kicker/punter at Iowa. A couple years later that guy is going to be winning games for the Hawks.

I'll glad buy him a beer and apologize (as long as he's 21) for it. But if I did so, you guys would accuse me of being a jock sniffer like NLP.
