That'll make PSU's loss next week all the more embarrassing.

I will vote for Obama next election if there are 30 teams better than Iowa right now.

"Well, we can't have been wrong about how awesome Oklahoma State/USC are, so Houston and Washington have to be good!"
The polls suck.
While disappointing the Hawks fare better when they fly below the radar. I like it when they play like they have something to prove and I'm sure the coaches will use this during the week. These things have a way of sorting themselves and if they beat PSU, the ranking will come.

Sagarin ratings aren't connected yet, though.
A collection of 25+ computer ratings has Iowa #13, Penn State #9.

The polls suck.
And the polls are the reason why college football truly needs a playoff. Because it is a travesty that the polls, and the morons that vote in them, dictate the national champion.

Absolutely.
Use the traditional bowls as the first round of a playoff system, and start the friggin' bowls earlier in the year. New Years Day is the absolute last day for the bowls, and the playoffs continue the next weekend with the national championship 2 weekends after NYDay.
Oh, and none of the GMAC/Horsecrap bowls on NYD. Only the traditional bowls for anything past December 30th or so.

Not practical unless you're talking about having a four-team playoff.

But I think that is practical, again, using the bowls as the first round of the playoffs.
Taking it from a list of 8 teams with a realistic shot at the MNC, with an eye on maybe 4 others for wildcards, and then choosing the 4 teams after the bowl games is pretty simple, really. Vastly better than what we have now.

No way can you conduct a playoff entirely in semi-neutral venues in the south. You'd have a lot of empty seats at playoff games.

Yeah, I'm not sure why it isn't practical. I mean, the bowls would have to take it or leave it. Having a top 12 would improve the process vastly. And eliminate polls until a month into the season. And for the love of God, don't give Notre Dame any sort of special treatment. The media already does enough of that.

12/16 teams is way too many teams.
If they do any form of a playoff, four teams (eight at the most).
I am just a traditionalist when it comes to college football, but they should just go back to the pre-BCS system and fans wanting a clear cut national champion can suck it.

We're still sucking it - the current system doesn't work, and there really isn't a clear cut national champion many years.
Being traditional retains the power of the polls. I just want the polls to go away for good.
And eliminate polls until a month into the season.
That wouldn't really solve any problems. Instead of teams being ranked on pre-season expectations, you'd be ranking teams based on how they performed to your own pre-season convictions. If the polls are going to have any official legitimacy, you can't really defend having them at all until the end of the year.

Florida was the clear cut champion last year (screw Utah, Florida was better).
LSU was the clear cut champion in 2007.
Florida was the clear cut champion in 2006.
Texas was the clear cut champion in 2005.

There were any number of one loss teams (and Utah) that could have made a case for being in the final game. Ditto for most years.
You can call it clear cut, but it isn't. Essentially the polls (made up of morons that many times don't even watch the games and are easily influenced by "tradition") dictate who gets into the final game. That's no championship.
