To make a legit run at all the marbles, it is important that we start off in the Top 10. This is a good sign.
Having said that, votes are stupid, and the reliance on returning starters is probably the gayest thing voters do.

Someone asked me this weekend where I thought we would be ranked to start the season....and imho I think it could widely vary.
A loss in the bowl...the departure of a couple key juniors...and we could be looking at 12-14 range.
If they all come back...we win our bowl....I think we could be as high as 5-6...and no lower than 8th

6-(probably)6 versus 6-(probably)6
Just think, that game could determine who goes to the Little Caesar's bowl.

The only year that extreme pre-season hype worked out for Iowa was 1985, and the regular season affirmation of that hype was a big part of why it was such a legendary year.
But it's almost always bad for an Iowa level program to get this kind of hype. It puts too much of a bullseye on us, we want to operate under the radar as long as possible. Mississippi this year is a good reminder of that.
