I always figured Clayborn would come back. He's not projected to go high enough, and his "I don't like school, but I love college" line from last year.

But would developments on the "stalker" front change his mind about this?

Keep Ivan away from this thread, bad karma.

I think Clayborn is as "ready" as he's going to be, or extremely close to it. He doesn't need to add weight; he doesn't really need to refine technique (and his ability to ad-lib as it pertains to technique is very limited in this scheme anyway). The only financial reason for staying is a conclusion that next year's draft class, particularly the DL draft class, will be weaker than this year's.

Probably. Since nothing is guaranteed in pro football, the risk of the extra year in college (injury--whether on the field or by lady acquaintenances, poor performance, loss of salary) almost certainly outweighs the benefit of perhaps getting a few million more via a higher draft position after the 2010 season.

It can end at any time in football so you need to bank as much cash as you can before that happens. QB is about the only position I can think of where waiting the extra year might help.

I don't see Clayborn as an all-conference DL. He's very good, but that position seems to be loaded this year. But I guess if he can get some money, the type that guarantees you never have to work again, I say go for it.

Am I alone in thinking Ballard may have the brighter NFL future? I think his combine numbers are going to be really good.

After seeing both Babs and Cole have success. I think you are correct with Ballard.

Angerer claimed Ballard would prolly be a better linebacker than PA...

Ballard is going to make one hell of a DE in the NFL.

Right now he's not even on most draft boards. Many have him at best as a late round pick. He will be back.

If you're not guaranteed a first round slot, no sense in coming out....nothing is solid unless you get a signing bonus that is taxed at 48%. For example Shonn Greene received a $900k bonus, government got almost half of that....not much living in NYC/NJ...quite a few I-bankers pull down more than that.

Holy balls, Batman. We'll see, but I think that he is a lock for first team all conference.

I don't think he is a lock. Lots of good DE in the conference this season, but I do think he will end up first team or second team.

The publicity that Iowa has received this season will translate into greater recognition for individual players than would otherwise be the case.

IMO Spievey, Sash, Angerer and Clayborn all end up first team all conference.

True or False, next year's d-line will be the most ridic line at Iowa ever?
They'll make the 03-04 guys look second rate.

If there are no departures for the NFL (a big if at this point), next year's defense will be the best in Iowa history.

9 starters back from this year's defense = a scary proposition

I wouldn't be worried if he was an inside LB.

However, Edds was great in coverage this year and I don't think we have any athletes like him waiting on the depth chart. Losing him + Spivey means our coverage is not going to be nearly as good as this year.

Replacing Angerer could be a bigger proposition than some think.

But in general I agree - if Spievey stays, next season's D could be the best we've seen in the KF era.

This, particularly if both Bernstine and Spievey see significant action.

Best in the nation along with best in Iowa history.

It would be even more noticeable if they get some help from the offense next year.
