Fiedorowicz said he opted to switch because he is impressed with the way Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz incorporates the tight end into his offense.

"All year long, he talked about going to a school that throws to the tight end," Lemming said. "Even when he was committed to Illinois, he talked about taking other visits. He has an NFL body. If he listens to his college coaches, he'll be a first-round draft choice. .

"I wouldn't have been surprised if he had gone to Iowa, Illinois or Wisconsin. But it's a super catch for Iowa, their biggest catch since the great Chicago haul (Moeaki, Dace Richardson, Dan Doering, Ryan Bain, Jake Christensen) five years ago."

This quote scares the bejesus out of me. I hope he is unlike most of those guys.

This. It cracks me up that 5 years later Lemming still considers them to be a "great haul".

I never talked to Illinois' tight end once.

Good grief - and Zook is supposedly a good recruiter? What does he do? Hire strippers?

"I'm set, no more looking around. Last weekend, I was talking to Iowa fans and they knew all about me. You could tell they care about their football over there."

Yep.

I thought that was a curious quote as well. Sounds like hanging out with Moeaki really sealed the deal.

That's probably a good move. The Illinois TEs would tell him they never get the ball.

Huh. And there was at least one poster who was upset about the offensive play calling during the Minnesota game chat because of the recruits visiting. I won't say his whole name, but his initials are NLP.

I complain (internally) about play calling every game, but there's no denying that when the pundits think of TE schools, even they think of Iowa as an elite destination. I guess one of the flip sides to being a conservative/power offense is that the TE's get their due and aren't considered 1 tool (blocking) options.

I agree. The big question is if he ends up at left or right tackle.

While I agree that could happen, I think he is too skilled to move away from TE. I believe I read today that some who grade out the people at rivals said he has the best hands out of all the senior TE this year.

Maybe we'll run a lot of tackle eligible plays.

the only thing that worried me about this kid is how highly Tom Lemming has him rated.

Lemming's the same guy who thought Bain, Jake, etc were all going to be D1 studs.

:)

But I agree the Lemming's opinion carries very little weight. Partially because he loves ND.

he had like 30 red zone TDs, so this kid is a weapon near the goal line.

multiple D1 schools? IIRC his two big offers were Kansas and Iowa. Jakes the kind of kid who does well at camps because his measureables were high. They cant scout the intangibles at those camps-like decision making or the ability to see the field. They also dismissed the fact that he completed less than fifty percent of his passes in HS. That being said, KOK did Jake no favors with the type of plays they had him run. He was too short to ever be a good pocket passer-he should have been rolled out of the pocket much more and used more like Brad Banks. Jake has good speed and is tough-he should have ran the ball more especially when pressured.

Lemming tends to really over rate the Illinois kids. I remember years ago he had a kid named John Foley rated as the next LT out of Illinois. Kid went to Notre Dame and I dont think he ever played a down. When you are rating thousands of kids every year you are really going to miss on some.
