View Full Version : Q: Does an OU win today get us into the BCS?

I'm not real sure the impact of Pitt losing yesterday, but it seems like it can't be bad for us. With the potential for Pitt being done, I can only assume that if OSU loses today the only chance for us being left out is PSU getting the nod ahead of us.

Thanks for any answers.

OU win is a big boost for us.

I think it's a good possibility (>50%) that two Big 10 teams get in no matter what. So our biggest obstacle is really whether or not PSU gets chosen over us. But to answer your question, an Oklahoma win today boosts the odds of two Big 10 teams in the BCS up from "good possibility" to "very likely".

It's taken with a grain of salt, but the announcers yesterday seemed to believe that the Fiesta match-up would be Oklahoma State/Boise St vs Iowa/Penn State. Not sure if the Ok/Ok St will have any impact on our side of the equation, but I'll still be rooting for Oklahoma.

While all true, with the perception being that the Fiesta is more likely to take Iowa and the Orange would choose PSU, knocking out Okie State is a big advantage.

I thought conferences could only have 2 BCS teams max. With OSU already in, it would seem either Iowa or Penn State will be left out of the mix.

Uh, yeah. If Oklahoma state were selected for the Fiesta, and the Orange took Penn State, even if the Fiesta wanted Iowa with their second pick they wouldn't be allowed to take them. Thus being why it's so important that Oklahoma State not be a possibility for the Fiesta's first selection.

or the Fiesta bowl could be smart and realize not one BCS game wants Okie State....no one is going to pick them except the Fiesta bowl. The Fiesta bowl should take Iowa first to make sure they get a team they really like and then take Okie State with the second pick as they will be available still. If they do that they can have their cake and eat it too.....they get a team that brings 30,000+ fans in Iowa and they keep the Big 12 happy by selecting a team from that conference.....its a win win for them and you'd hope they are smart enough to realize this

OR....they could do the same thing and select PSU. It all comes down to which Big Ten school does the Fiesta want...Iowa or PSU. It is why Iowa recently sent a packet of info to Fiesta Bowl reps that contained studies showing the economic impact that Iowa fans have had on cities where a bowl hosting Iowa has been held.

But the JoePa angle is going to be tough to beat.

Random question...but I thought I read somewhere that the Orange Bowl's at-large selection comes before the Fiesta's.

correct...the same would apply for Penn State.....the Fiesta bowl is in a good position really as they arent last....they wont be forced to take TCU the second time around

They do...except if Texas is in the title game, then the Fiesta will get to choose its "replacement" team (either first or second, depending on where Texas finishes in the BCS) before the regular at-large picks are made.
