View Full Version : Are people who accept a religion the true Atheists?

Take Mormonism for example. It's basis on the word of John Smith is laughable. The entire core of the religion is built on the flimsy word of a con-man. Mormons who believe this aren't all just stupid (I'm sure some are)... so they must know in their heart that the entire religion is built on lies, yet they accepted it and follow it.
Is accepting what you know to be a lie for the truth about God, not the ultimate acceptance that you really don't believe in God at all? That you're and Atheist, yet cannot admit it? I think it is.
Substitute Mormonism for every other man made, unsubstantiated religion like Christianity, Judaism and Islam they're all just fabricated as the next. So if you're really religious... you're either an idiot or an Atheist. Simple as that.

By no means am I the type of atheist that wants to change anyone's mind. It bothers me none, given our protections here, if one wants to profess Christian, Muslim or Tribal religious beliefs. Have it.
My perception of religion is that it is propoganda. No lie is bigger than a claim to have figured out the meaning of life through supernatural observation, but as we post 20th century inhabitants of Earth know, the big lie repeated over and over is more powerful than the small lie. This is true within the religious communities themselves.
Observe: Christianity claims to understand the meaning and purpose of human existence. That is a big lie.
To get to that big lie, Christianity is pepppered with small lies. The creation story. The story of Noah. Etc.
Sure, some take these stories literally. There are many interpretations all professing to be true. However, many modern Christians (and Jews) are embarrassed by literal interpretations or acceptance of supernatural occurrences. So, they shed the small lies, but retain the big lie: the meaning of life is all figured out by the Bible.

Since when was Hitler considered a Christian?
Since fecestossingPhil proclaimed that on this board in an earlier non-Christian-hating thread.
