I don't know a lot about this stuff... but what is a ballpark estimate of what I might pay for a basic 3 season porch?

Lot's of variables. Size, number of windows, etc,. Let's just go with ten bills for something very basic and not too large.

Sambud is correct, everything from size, how you plan to tie into house, how you are finishing, all will make a difference.

I have a back patio w/ sliding doors that this would replace. Basically I'm looking for something we could throw a couch, chair, TV, and possibly a wood burning fireplace, and not be too crammed.

If you're in Cedar Rapids, you'll need a five-seasons porch. That'll add a few thousand bucks.

With the construction economy in stagnation labor costs should be pretty reasonable. We built a large overhang above our deck which tied into our roof line for about $4000 less than an almost identical one next door. The only difference, the neighbor built his two years sooner.
