View Full Version : Jonathan Narcisse to challenge Culver

Democrat Jonathan Narcisse plans to declare his candidacy for Iowa governor today.

The former Des Moines school board member's announcement will make Narcisse the first Iowan to challenge a sitting governor in a primary since 1994.

Gov. Chet Culver, a Democrat elected in 2006, is planning to announce his bid for a second term in April or May, campaign officials said this week.

Narcisse, former co-chairman of the Polk County Democratic Party, plans to hold his campaign kickoff at 10 a.m. at the Bob Mickle Community Center, 1620 Pleasant St., in Des Moines. He is editor of the Iowa Bystander. He signaled his plans to run in recent weeks, arguing that Culver and Republican candidates for governor have not offered a compelling vision to improve Iowa's economy, public education or the state government's fiscal health.Dear God,

Please let the media follow this campaign closely.

Thank you,
Onion

I was just wondering if Culver could actually come out looking better after this.

Narcisse would run circles around Culver in a debate. He certainly has his weaknesses as a candidates, but there is no doubt he's a very smart guy.

I do not doubt that Narcisse has a good 30 IQ point lead on GBL. That being said, I have never heard Jonathan Narcisse make a cogent point. He wanders around when speaking, and plays it loose and fast with the truth. Far too often he throws stuff out there that he has pulled straight out of his ass.

80% of HaLo posters pre 2010 DB invasion could pwn Narcisse in a debate.

A BVP v Narcisse general election might cause Deace to actually, physically explode.

Exactly what I was going to say. JN just talks louder and louder, interrupts more, and doesn't let his "opponent" speak. That's his debate style.

JN is a piece of crap.

This was also reported in Cityview a few weeks ago, for whatever it's worth. I believe I linked to it on here at the time, but I don't believe anyone had a concrete idea of who the Dems would run.

JN won't be running as a Dem, he'll run independant. Money will be his biggest challenge...besides being taken seriously by the press.

I'm friends with Jon, so when I hear questions about his intellect, I shake my head. He spoke at the "Tea Party Convention" at HyVee Hall and recieved a standing O when he was finished. That doesn't necessarily translate into votes, but when you hear his message, you want to find out more about him.

I believe Narcisse to be smart on an IQ scale, but scattered as hell in his thinking and among the worst that I've ever heard in terms of making a well defended point. In addition, he has a very loose relationship with the facts when stating his case.

No, when I hear his "message" I want him to shut his grandstanding pie hole.

That rumor has been out there quite a bit. As vulnerable as Chet is, I can't imagine who they could find that would be a better option.

JN is in fact running as a dem. I suspect that he'll continue to run in the general even if he loses, though.

He took it to a whole new level. At least the board adjusted their data after the new numbers came in with the statewide reporting program. I still don't know where Jon was getting his numbers.

From his time on the school board he comes across as difficult to work with. Didn't he have some personal financial trouble also? How will this instill any confidence in managing the state budget.

Drakebulldog says he'll have some money problems but they seem like they are of his own doing. He might be a smart guy but he's in need to a public relations intervention. The message is lost if no one likes the messenger.

No, it really isn't, particularly in urban districts where there are more students going out than coming in. See, what Jon would do is take the number of 9th graders at East or Lincoln, then subtract the grads 4 years later. That's how he figured drop out rate. What about the kids who moved away? Open enrolled out? Transferred to another DM school or alternative school? Out of a 9th grade class in DM, these numbers can be significant. Between 10 and 20 percent who moved on but didn't necessarily drop out. Heck, Scavo has between 150 and 250 students, all drop outs according to Jon.
