I hope you like it, NLP but I am not sure it will be your cup of tea.

Best thing to do is shut it off after about 60 minutes. Every Coen Brothers film is gold for the first hour, then shit for the remainder.

I think he'll like it. Especially Goodman's character.

Just finished watching 'A Serious Man'. Except for the whimsy, it's not a typical Coen brothers flick; wife didn't like it, I loved it.

Many people say you need to watch it more than once to hit the necessary wavelength to appreciate it. I know that I did.
I saw it when it was out at the theaters (being the Coens' followup to "Fargo", which I loved). And I walked out of there saying "What the hell was that bizarre piece of crap?"
It wasn't until a few years later when a friend convinced me to watch it again that I became a fan.
One piece of advice: pay less attention to the plot than the dialogue and characters.

I only found the movie to be average the first time. But it gets better every time I watch it. Its one I always watch when on, even if its half over.

False. Complete falsity right there.
I too was a bit less than impressed the first time through, but like all Coen Bros films, it is indelible. You'll remember bits without even trying.

Absolutely. The plot is at the service of the characters, not the other way around.

This is exactly what I thought. The first time I saw it, I thought there were some funny parts, but overall disappointing. Maybe I was trying to follow the plot. I saw it again awhile later, and was only paying attention to the dialogue. The humor with that can be somewhat subtle, and I thought it was absolutely hilarious. From then, it became one of my favorite movies.
I love all of the sarcastic remarks. Like after Lebowski and Maude watched the porno 'Logjammin' to see that Bunny was in it, when she says 'I'm sure you can imagine what happens next' and he says 'he fixes the cable?'

I'd say so -- as evidenced by your choice of screenname.

Without a doubt. It's somewhat reminiscent of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" phenomenon in the 70s (except that it's, ya know, actually funny).
I'd have a hard time picking out my favorite sarcastic volleys in TBL. But one that always makes me snicker is the punchline ending the banter between Treehorn and the Dude about the transformation of the porn business in the digital age:
Jackie Treehorn: People forget that the brain is the biggest erogenous zone.
The Dude: On you, maybe.
Jackie Treehorn: Of course, you do get the good with the bad. The new technology permits us to do exciting things with interactive erotic software. Wave of the future, Dude. 100% electronic.
The Dude: Uh-huh. Well.....I still jerk off manually.
Jackie Treehorn, approvingly patting the Dude's raised leg: Of course you do.
That's pure comedic gold -- subtle and silly, but tone-perfect.

fell asleep when The Dude was with Jackie Treehorn. It had some clever dialogue, not fall on the floor funny though.
