If you can't get some regulations passed, charge the winning party with assault, charge the promoter with whatever is appropriate, and watch these heathens either clean up their act overnight or slink off into the dust where they belong.

I've got students doing this stuff during lunch (we have open lunch) and after school. I've put a stop to it during lunch, but it's becoming way too common.

I agree with the criminal charges part. How can a 17 year old consent to this?

Which is why you shouldn't support it generally.

even the Toughman contests were ran better than this with pre fight physicals and a doctor at ringside. And certified refs.
Altho, true story, the "ringside doctor" in Dubuque was a gynecologist.

Yeah, I know a guy back in Burlington who's done this a few times (1-2 record). He has no business in a ring...overweight, unathletic, almost 40 and likely couldn't pass any sort of meaningful physical related to fitness to fight. To give you an idea, his cardio preparation consisted of walking (and walking alone).
As I understand it, some dude down there just bought a "cage," perhaps became affiliated with some rinky dink third tier organization, and started throwing fights every 2-3 months. Except for maybe the top of the card, my understanding is that the pay is horrible...$100 FTW, nothing or close to it FTL.

"Toughman" contests were a joke as well. 2 guys with zero conditioning flinging gloves at each other until one connected, or they both gassed out

Ive seen some decent fighters at them. Generally in the HWY class if you had any skill and could last more than a round, you would do well.
I saw Tom Rusk, former Iowa Lb, knocking out dudes with jabs while wearing 16 oz gloves.
He had some pro fights after that and could have made decent money fighting.
