Our internet went out last night, tech lady had me do a million things only to find out an hour later it was out in the entire area...not sure how she didn't know this but whatever.
Got it back up on my desktop, but now when I try to access my router my Belkin connections says: "the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network"
Can someone walk me through how to change the setting so the laptop will recognize the router?
Thanks

The quickest way is to do a system restore and go back in time a couple days.

How do I do a system restore?

start>programs>accessories>systemtools>system restore. yes to restore it to an earlier time, choose the date you wish to restore it to. The available dates will be bolded in a calendar setup.
The only question is whether or not it's enabled for your machine, but it likely is.

It sounds like they screwed the pooch on the router settings.
You could check to see if your IP properties are all to defaults:
Start>settings>control panel>network connections>local area connections>Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) - properties>set everything to automatic and disable any mention of a proxy.
Barring any issue there, call the ISP and ask them to look at your router setups.
Also, be forewarned in the future. The person you talk to might be just as clueless as you are, and is trying all this stuff from a db of "helpful hints."

They never had me do anything thru the laptop....that's why I think it might be something simple. Everything they had me mess with was thru the desktop and the router was actually even unhooked during all that.

Because your network was dropped they could have issued you a new ip that your labtop doesn't know. You on XP? I believe there is a network icon under your control/systems folder where you can do a release and renew.

*facepalm*
You mean you didn't do anything to your laptop, but that's what you were troubleshooting?
Does the desktop work?

Press "Windows" button.
Type "CMD"
Right Click "CMD.EXE" and Select "Run as administrator"
Select "Continue" on the "User Account Control" Window
Run ipconfig /renew as normal and it should release and renew IP address.

I have internet to the desktop but after I hooked the router and modem back up, the laptop won't access the router.
No...we were troubleshooting the desktop.

At this point I really don't know without looking at it. It looks like you are connected to the router...
