What towns are in Lyon and Wapello counties? Do they have a large enough population to even attract casino-goers?

Lyons is the very NW county. Close to Sioux Falls- this one could actually make sense. And Wapello, I guess they figure Ottumwa is dumb enough to throw all their money away in a casino?

Yep. They're tired of seeing the injuns get all the money & not have to share.

The reason Tama has requested one is absolutely to compete with Meskwaki. But part of this is brought on by Meskwaki themselves.

Tama County is already a pretty poor county. And the state has stuck Tama County holding the bag providing some services to the Meskwaki - services that are either not reimbursed or only partially so. In addition, one could certainly make the argument that there are a lot of Tama County infrastructure resources used to maintain traffic specifically for the casino. Couple that with a shrinking tax base (each time a Meskwaki buys land it becomes part of Meswaki Settlement and is no longer part of Tama County, thus not taxable) and you've got the stage set for major problems.

Each year the Tama County reps try to appeal to the state and/or federal government. And each year, the state government and Senators Harkin and Grassley give a collective yawn and tell them to work it out.

It's a joke.

Not that it matters, but didn't Culver say during his campaign he wouldn't support adding casinos to the state?

I truly believe they are going to keep adding Casinos every few years until we have one or two go out of business. A few years ago you could just float a closed casino away. Now some town is going to get stuck with a big ugly monstrosity.

What do you mean a "big ugly monstrosity"?

Just wait until it (or one like it) is empty. ;)

If anything resembling free market principles was at play here, you'd have a point.
