I was down at the Jesse Brown Veteran's Hospital in Chicago today for a check-up, and I had a couple of things I want to comment on.

First, do any white people work for the VA? The percentage of African-American employees down there is probably around 98%. Not that it really matters, but it is really strange that they don't have more white, hispanic or asian employees. Also, if anyone knows, where could I find the demographic breakdown of VA employees?

Second, when I met with my doctor, he spent more than half of our appointment on entering the data from the appointment into "the system." I just wanted to point out that all of us probably have something similar to this to look forward to in a few years.

That is all.

Are you on a year-long wait for new hearing aids?

No, but I do have a couple of follow-ups scheduled, but I didn't get any actual dates.

I signed up for today's appointment a month and half ago. Remarkable efficiency down there.

Efficiencies, boyz.

There is no probably about it, we all are destined to watch physicians fumble with computers in the name of "quality control" and "improved care". But hey, some administrator a thousand miles away will be able to look at a computer record to make sure your physician documented correctly and ordered tests consistent with "preferred practice plans". Of course with time, more and more pre-med flunkies turned health administrators will need to be hired to interpret these extensive computer records in the name of efficiency.

I know I am very excited for this.

Not to mention our new national data bases that will have HC, finance, and lord knows what else in them yet too.

It's gonna be a 1984ish future.

Had to deliver a sandwich to a guy in a VA hospital once. Not a pleasant experience
