After seeing a couple weeks of mixed reviews, we got to see Iron Man 2 in XD Cinema this morning.

Solid movie, much better than the first one.

I thought it was entertaining, but not much more than that really. RDJ was good once more as Tony Stark, but frankly it left a little to be desired.

It was alright, but it was definitely not as good as the first one.

It was basically "Let's introduce 10 different plot elements without explaining any of them and make it the focus of the movie."

11 if you count the element he invented in his basement.

I thought it was way better than the first one. The ending of the first one was terrible. Terrible.

I watched it illegally Wednesday night.

Tony Stark needs 5 test flights to figure how how to fly in the suit, but Rhodes can step in it and fly? Please.

That is your nitpick? Weren't those prototype suits and isn't Rhodes in the Air Force?

Not a complete explanation, but if that is the best gripe you have.....

That was just one of them. I don't have to explain my likes and dislikes of a movie to you.

If they are as stupid as your first dislike then I really don't give a shit and I understand how you would be embarrassed to explain them.

I just got back from seeing a movie with my wife. I offered to walk home, if she let me stay and watch IM 2, after watching Date Night. I believe there were eight theatres where we went, and three of them were IM 2. Does TS really piss in his suit?

Yes, but there is filtration and you can totally drink it.

NotESS - Here are my problems with it.

I thought Tony was too snarky. I thought the first movie did a better job of balancing the amount of humor in it and I thought this one went overboard. I wanted to punch him during the congressional hearing.

I didn't like Hammer. I couldn't tell if the actor did a poor job or if it was written poorly (really leaning towards the latter), but I thought his character was pathetic in a way that didn't work with the movie. I would have much more liked to see a cool, collected CEO with a hatred for Stark, not a sniveling punk who pretended to love Stark in public and wasn't intelligent in his own right (because he really was portrayed as stupid).

I thought they went to far with SJ's character. I don't like when movies play too much on the petite girl that can actually kick your ass type of thing. I'm fine with a chick in a movie who can beat people up, but unless her name is Uma Thurman I think it is easy to overdo, and that is what IM2 did here.

I also thought there was too much stuff going on. Tony was dying, Tony apparantly didn't like his father but then found out his dad loved him, Tony had to discover a new element which improved the suit and healed him, Tony and Pepper weren't together even though I thought it was hinted at the end of the last movie (could be wrong), MR's character had a dad who worked with Tony's dad who wanted revenge, etc. Just too many things for my liking.

This all sounds very critical but I did think the movie was enjoyable enough. I just didn't think it was fantastic. I went to the midnight premier and I was expecting it to be an awesome movie. Maybe that was the difference - you probably went in with lower expectations than me. I thought the action was great and the cars were sweet, and most of the humor was at least kind of funny. I just walked out of the theater last night thinking, "Wow, these guys just tried to hard."

Too snarky? Perhaps, but it is Tony Stark.

As far as SJ's character, she is Black Widow and what the hell do you expect. The way they shot her action, she was getting cheers in the audience I saw it with.

Right. I know Tony is supposed to be that way it was just overdone imo.

And SJ's character was definitely shot well if you catch my drift, but I'll just say that until we found out she she wasn't really from legal I thought the scene in the boxing ring with JF was incredibly cheesy.

good flick and glad the avengers were introduced. looking forward to the mighty thor. it's a popcorn movie, and food for the geeks. but damn, i can't wait until they bring the whole universe together. someone above was correct, they put a ton of different plots into this movie that could have been explored much better -- but there is no way they could have done it justice and kept it under 4 hours. fun flick, not a great movie, but fun.

I thought it was better than the first one. It's not too hard to top an origin movie.

Some of you guy are analyzing this like it's an Oscar film. It's not. It's just a popcorn movie done well which is rare in Hollywood (Star Wars prequels and the Transformers movies).

Also saw the preview for Nolan's Inception. Holy Fuck!
