Actually, I think that the "spin" put on last week's job numbers carries some water.

If it's bad news for the labor market that people give up looking for work (which lowers the headline unemployment figure the wrong way), then it stands to reason that it's good news when people enter the job market.

Yes, it would be better news if there were jobs awaiting those people. And, right now, there aren't.

But the private sector added about 125K jobs last month -- and, while that's far from ideal, it's the best such number I can recall seeing in a long time.

Still, if there's any good prospects for sustainable growth on the near-term horizon, I don't know where they are.

I really hope this is our last attempt to revive a flagging economy with Keynesian measures. It's been a spectacular failure.
