I want to say: "I'm beginning with a full palate/palette."

Which is correct?

By the way, this is pertaining to taste if that makes a difference.

If you're talking about paints, it's palette. If you're talking about the roof of your mouth, it's palate. If you're talking about a full agenda, the correct phrase is "a full plate."

Btw, Pedro, do you own a dictionary?

I just checked, and Google is currently functional.

Then stop talking with your mouth full...

See, that's where it gets tricky. I know of what you speak, however, I'm using it to describe seemingly a combination of the two. Here is the full text I'm trying to create:

For now I don't have to begin with a blank slate (Locke, et al.), but rather a full palate/palette.

It's in reference to help I received putting a beer recipe together, so I was thinking it would be like a full painter's palette (now that I have all the ingredients), but then it has to do with taste as well.

Btw, Pedro, do you own a dictionary?
No I don't, and the internet is not being very forthcoming with answers as I had hoped.

Don't be a lilzaphod. We're dealing with a lot of shit here. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

Fine.

I appreciate the help, Match. I'd already been to that site, but it's still inconclusive to me.

I've decided to go with a different approach.

The problem you are having is that you are mixing metaphors with words that are Homophones.

The easiest way out of this issue is to pick a metaphor and stick with it. You aren't witty enough to pull it off.

Go with palette.

Palette, but you're mixing metaphors. You should switch blank "slate" to blank "canvas", then the paint metaphor holds throughout.

That's also a good point. You're going with the artist's palette as your metaphor, so use it consistently and use palette. You should never change a spelling to make a play on words or pun more obvious.

Go with palette.

Correct. The way he is using it does not imply anything with 'taste' as well from the limited sample content he has provided.

Something can "bring a Palette of flavors to one's Palate", but that's a really fucking pretentious way to talk.
