This is from the website of an Iowa Congressional candidate in 2010; It clearly makes you aware of why the defeatocrats seem to have an advantage at the polls, of late. And it's pathetic.

We are at a point in this country where approximately 60% of the people receive more in benefits than they pay in taxes. On first blush, you may not have the same concerns that I do, but think about the consequences. It is very easy for that 60% to vote for people that promise them more and more. Eventually, the 40% becomes smaller as more become net dependent on the government. What happens when that 40% becomes too small to support the growth of government? We collapse.
While this is clearly not healthy for the country, I believe it is also not healthy for those who become dependent. We all know people who don’t like their jobs, but are dependent and beholden to their employer. They often end up doing things or making compromises to their values because of this dependence. The same thing happens with government.

Prior to World War II, federal government spending as a percentage of GDP was less than 10%. Since WWII it has hovered around 20%. It is now 27% and projected to grow to 34% in 25 years. Even more concerning is if we do exactly what we are doing now, it will approach 2/3 of our entire economy in 70 years. This assumes NO additional entitlements such as nationalized healthcare. These entitlements will only make the problems larger.

The USA could end-up in precisely the horrid position of Greece, sooner than you think.

A few thoughts here:

1) Insert man lands on moon pic
2) I'm not sure how you reduce entitlements, or funding of any kind, as a polictician without being branded by the left as "He hates the ____________"
3) "Defeatocrats", seriously? If you want people to engage you in any sort of discussion you should probably wait until the 5-6th post of the thread before you go 3rd grader on them.

There is no problem with properly funded entitlements.. TO bad the Reagan tax cuts fucked our country up for the middle class and poor to the point we have this discussion today.

So Moby, you're good with a majority of our citizens being on the gov't/tax payer's dime? Do you honestly believe this is a good economic strategy for the country?

I think moby meant to write 'too good' rather than to good in his post. (Probably a public education thing). :D

Doey.............sure, we can be all nicey-nice to the dems, if that's your wish, however they are taking the USA off a cliff, much like Greece is going off right now. California is one of the most entitlement rich states and guess what?????????? They may be the first Greece-like state in the USA.

Moby's definition of "funding entitlements": the federal government taking income from productive workers to fund Moby's unemployed status.

I know this is going to sound crazy to Moby, but the simple truth is that there have always been poor people, and there will always be poor people, and the more that we try to use government to fight what is an economic reality, the worse off everyone will be.

Except Moby refuses to recognize that what we define as "poor" today would have been decidedly middle-class fifty years ago.

Is it not a God given right to have?:

Cable/dish
Cell Phone
Brand name clothing

Oh yes, I'd guess the Committed-Lefties are drafting Talking points, right now, on how these items are 'human rights' like healthcare, blah, blah, blah.

Exactly right.

That is the end result of a number of threads where he's commented on the status of "the poor."

First I have to ask what percentage of this 60% is coming from Social Security. I suspect the number goes way down after you take those numbers away. SO what do you have after that?

And lets not forget a great deal of our US corporations are also on the government dime but we never hear that from republican congressman now do we.. I wonder why not?

How much money goes toward 'corporate welfare' Moby?

You should get the numbers for us.

OK.............If you take out Social Security retirement income, but leave in Social Security Disability it takes it down to 59.97%.

The corrupt-o-crats train their stool pigeons to always be asking for handouts from someone else's money. I believe it's in their platform at this point.

Do farmers receive a lot from subsidies?

Its estimated that about 80% of all Iowa farmers receive welfare.. I wonder how big that number is overall?

Ah yes, the secular lefties game of twisting logic to fit their weak-tit arguments and pathetic moral relativism is an abomination. The United States of America is realizing what a sham the liberal ideology is, now trying to enact weasel programs from europe. The hate america lefties are about to get their comeuppance.
