are you talking the blues rock era of the late 60's? Go with Derek and the Dominoes, the Layla sessions. Fleetwood Mac's Albatross is an excellent album too.

Any of Fleetwood Mac's first few albums are pretty good. Their 2 Volume 'Blues Jam in Chicago' albums have them playing with Willie Dixon, Honeyboy Edwards, etc. Pretty good stuff. Almost makes up for the hideousness that is Rumours. Almost.
