Coaches today must also be more aware of the game clock, thanks to rules that will be implemented during the 2013 season.

Officials will add a 10-second runoff if there’s a clock-stopping injury with less than a minute to play in either the half or the game.

And let’s say a coach wants to stop the clock with the always-popular quarterback spike of the ball?

That’s still allowed — but it will work only if 3 seconds remain when the play starts. Anything less means the offense will have time to run just one more play.

What’s it mean?

Coaches will save timeouts.

“Some of the rules I think are going the wrong direction,” Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads said during an interview in the spring. “This year, if a young man gets hurt with under a minute in a game, you can either take a timeout, or you can run 10 seconds off of the clock.”

Previously, officials stopped the clock when players were injured. Time resumed where it was stopped. There was no runoff.

“It’s because somebody’s abused that,” Rhoads said. “Somebody’s faked an injury, and somebody this year will lose a game because some kid will get legitimately hurt, they’ll lose 10 seconds on the clock because of it, and it’ll cost them a play they could have scored on.”

The solution isn’t exactly a preferred solution.

“You can use a timeout,” Rhoads said, “but timeouts are too valuable to have to use on something like that — if a player is injured.

“You want timeouts to save every second on the clock when an opponent has the ball and you’re trying to force him to punt.

“Having to lose one because of a helmet coming off or because of an injury isn’t right.”

 How did this happen?

I was about 320 [kilometres] into a 400 k trip … and was doing about 90km/h in the right hand lane going north and [the wolf] came from the left hand side of the road. It darted out, crossed the other lane and I had to swerve and accelerate to get around it. I went forward about 100 meters and when I turned around it was just standing in the middle of the lane watching me.

How close did it get to you?

It was coming at me. It probably got to within a couple metres, easy, maybe a metre. If I’d have slowed down I would have definitely hit it, so I just opened it up, got a bit of power and got around it. I’ve had dogs run out at me on bikes before and you sort of get a feel for the distance the speed you’re going, but it was pretty tight.

But after you’d gotten some distance between you, that’s when you pulled around for a closer look?

I stopped the bike, pulled my gloves off, took my camera out, did a u-turn and came back, and that’s when I managed to get the pictures. When [the wolf] heard me coming, it jumped back over a [roadside] barrier and it started running. I sped up a little bit, it got in nice and close and I was driving with my right hand and clicking pictures with my left. When I first came back around, it came in really close; probably a bit too close. It would have been a real bad time to run out of gas. Even over the motor, I could hear it. I could hear its feet on the road.

Do you think this wolf was playing with you, or were you being hunted?

To me, it was more exciting than scary, I’ll put it to you that way. In my gut, I didn’t feel threatened at all. I would have felt threatened if I was walking or on a bicycle, but I knew I could outrun it. It also didn’t have a real aggressive feel. I don’t think it was after me, it was probably after the bike. That’s just the way I felt; I could have been wrong, I’m no wolf expert.

How fast was it going?

I didn’t look at the speedo, but I’d say somewhere between 30 to 40 km/h.

And the wolf’s size?

It was bigger than the biggest dog I’ve ever seen. Long legs and a big head, a massive head; it was almost out of proportion. It was big enough.

There are cool designs, lots of airplane and arrow imagery and a nonfunctioning typewriter (which I'm sure at least one houseguest will spend hours examining for clues). However, the most important part of the tour is one very big difference in the living room.

Nomination Couch: In the living room, the two nomination chairs are GONE! Instead, there's a couch which has lines and colors that seem to separate it into thirds. Does this mean that there will be THREE houseguests nominated for eviction each week? I think it does. And that's definitely going to be an interesting twist that will change the game.

Familiar Face: Julie ends the video by saying that there will be 16 new houseguests, but there will be one "familiar face," though it's not what we think. That means it's probably NOT a returning houseguest. Maybe it's someone from another reality show (Survivor). Maybe it's a celebrity. Or maybe it's a twin of a past contestant.

Have-Not Room: This season will still have Have-Nots and while the room is locked, Julie teases us by saying "Imagine trying to sleep in this bedroom, but you can't quite lie down." I can only assume that means the beds aren't exactly horizontal.

Other Changes: The bathroom now looks like a sauna, the lounge has blue airport runway lights in it (but no fortune teller or crane machine) and there's an island in the kitchen. That's definitely different from how they've done things in the past few seasons. It's been a long time since I remember seeing a kitchen island in the house.
