It's very convenient and she does a hell of a job, and I usually have need of her services for at least one pair of shoes (I usually have 4 pair available...commute loafers, dress brown, cordovan, and black oxfords). Today I needed the shoes I was wearing shined, so I slipped them off and handed them to her.

While she shined them up, I was partaking of a jar of giant pistachios. I only call them giant because that is what the jar stated they were. They seemed pistachios of ordinary size, but this is of no import.

Some pistachios are more difficult to open than others. If they are not sufficiently open on each side, this is especially true. One such pistachio had no opening at all on one side, so I took my metal can of mints and pounded on it until it opened. But, alas, the nut escaped as I opened the shell too quickly and with the can of mints still in my hand; an unwieldly situation.

I looked for the nut, but could not find it, and so I put I was about to put it out of mind when the shoe shine lady came back in. She asked if I lost something, and so I related my pistachio debacle. She then approached my chair and shoehorn in hand, prepared to kneel down and put my shoes back on, when she exclaimed, "I found your nutmeat!"
