When KOK came to Iowa and told him that he planned to resign and go to the NFL and be a WR coach should we have offered him more $$ to stay?? Was Iowa smart letting him go, but stupid with their hire?? What do you think??

From the outside it looks like Kirk saw O'Keefe leaving about as much as he saw the fake punt coming v Wisky.

This is like when you are dating someone for awhile and you're getting kind of tired of her She isnt dressing up for you as much, or putting on makeup. She's put on a few pounds. You've been thinking about breaking up but haven't been able to pull the trigger. Finally, she leaves you and you're happy. You meet someone else and you have that new relationship excitement going. Except after a few months you realize she's even fatter than you're old gf, has bad breath, and a raging case of herpes.
Now, you start to wish you'd kept the other girl around, because she wasn't that bad.

Letting KOK go was the correct decision. Hiring Greg Davis was the wrong decision.

I thought KOK left on his own, I didn't know that we let him go. Either way, can you explain to me why "letting" KOK go was the right decision?? KOK was an intricate part in the success of the Iowa football team for years.

I heard that KOK and Ferentz had a major disagreement at the end of the 2010 season and O'Keefe tried to resign at that point. Ferentz wouldn't accept the resignation.
That comes from a buddy who knows people within the program's infrastructure. So it's probably not worth shit. But if it is, Ferentz shouldn't have been blind-sided by KOK's departure. The fact that a guy would leave an OC position at a BCS school to become a position coach in the NFL (for a former subordinate, nonetheless) should be the most telling. |

LOL, he had a one year contract, how did KF "not accept" his resignation?

I'm not sure what world you and your friend are living in, but I'm pretty sure you can resign/quit at any point in time. There might be a clause that you have to pay back money, but if you want to resign you can resign...at least in the world I live in.

Other than Davis, do we know who was interviewed and/or on the short list for the OC position?

Aren't all the assistant coaches on one-year contracts? It's probably just an administrative thing, but IIRC all of the football coaches (sans Ferentz) operate on one year contracts.

I would love for Kirk to say Davis is leaving and O'Keefe will be back.
He would be welcomed back as a hero.

there was nothing wrong with the KOK offense, just the playcalling

Let's not pretend this is a "good" thing. KOK should have been gone and replaced with a young coach who had a modern play calling system. The only reason people would love to have him back is Greg Davis.

Largely agree. Though I generally thought KOK was overly maligned, I was fine with him leaving until I saw what we'd replaced him with
