The other thing an Early Signing period would do is cut down on the fan interaction with players. Taking half of the players out of the equation in late August / Early September would be a very smart thing to do.

Kenney is one of those kids who probably does not know much about Iowa. Big deal...

I think we need to be recruiting 6-4 240lb DEs with frame to get much bigger. He probably wont reach his max potential and Indiana, but wont be the last player to have that happen either.

Yeah our d-end depth is awful. Most of the ones we've recruited recently haven't been quick enough to stick there and have been turned into tackles (or wind up in the weird tweener zone like Bigach where they're not quick or strong enough to play at either slot consistently). Generally speaking they've done best at d-end with guys who were actual prospects like Clayborn or Roth. Kenny was the most important guy in this class, losing him sucks a lot, even if it's not even remotely surprising.

I guess Kevin Wilson realized the only way he is going to ever get recruits to Indiana was to get down and dirty and that way seems to be hiring David Kenney Sr.

Darius Latham, a Rivals Top 250 player from Indianapolis who was committed to Wisconsin has now de-committed and is set to commit to Indiana. Want to take a wild guess who his best friend is?

All of these guys are now working John Kenny over as well trying to get him to flip from Iowa.

If there was any doubt that it was David Kenney Sr. doing all of the flipping, the article TOS did on Kenney today pretty much confirmed that his family put pressure on him to de-commit from Iowa.

Indiana will now have 4 - 4* Top 250 players after all of this.

This of course is all in mid-October and a very long way to February. I will laugh at them if some of the bigger guys back out on the others at the last minute.

David Kenney had some decent offers, but the Latham kid has an offer from every major school in the country. I am sure it was fairly easy for him to de-commit from Wisconsin right now, but he is going to get into December and have schools like Florida still after him and that is going to be hard to turn down.

Let's see what happens in December and January when they can take Official visits to warm places and get out of freezing Indianapolis.

Yep. I think the same thing will happen to Kevin Wilson in the end as well. It is all bells and whistles, but just not sustainable.

In the end a smaller school with little fan support and crappy facilities has to have real substance behind it. Pat Fitzgerald, no matter how much of a douche he is, shows the model on how to do this.

Yup. Their offense quietly gave us fits last year, but we had an offense that could light up shitty defenses so it didn't matter. Unfortunately that seems to have walked out the door with McNutt.

I know Iowa's staff thinks they have a handle on things, but I do believe there are several things they could improve upon.. One, not being slaves to the power system and dumping guys like Edwards for slow 220lb RBs whose fathers were 300lb OL players at OSU

I'm still baffled at why they pass on ready-made OL/DL types for guys they need to develop..I guess they see them as easier to recruit and sign on the dotted line

UCLA seems to be doing fine with a good number of true freshman in the 2 deeps including a starter at OT.

I'm not talking about true freshman being ready to play right away, but even our 3rd year sophs are undersized and weak in the trenches

I just scrolled through the 2012 rivals 250. There are like 5 big ten recruits on there not going to osu or michigan. Wisconsin had a top 100 guy but hes from wisconsin.

OSU and Michigan are going to be relatively unchallenged in the Big Ten for the next 5-10 years.

I don't think Michigan State is coming back any time soon, especially with all the reports of Narduzi leaving growing louder. Wisconsin is already in a downswing and I think that will continue because they have gotten extremely lucky haven't recruited worth a shit despite having 3 straight Rose Bowls.

Penn State is going to be irrelevant for at least another 5-7 years if not longer. Iowa was just used as a joke by every analyst explaining why Northern Illinois isn't any good. Nebraska will hang around, but that fan base will eventually eat Pelini alive.

Get used to Ohio State and Michigan for a long time.

When was the last time we got an unheralded white guy from a state 1000 miles away we should have been recruiting for speed that wasn't worse than our Tommy Soybeans ?

It won't be just 4. I would bet they give out 6 or so. Somebody is going to leave between now and February and they always give out more than they say they are going to. Even late last year they said it would be 18 or 19 and it turned into 24.
