Default Iowa on TV - 2010 Early Edition

A significant number of TV selections have been made for this season. Channels in brackets are the remaining available choices. I will update a selections are made. Here they are:

9/4
Eastern Illinois @ Iowa - 11am - BTN

9/11
Iowa State @ Iowa - 2:30pm - ABC Regional/ESPN2 (Reverse mirror)

9/18
Iowa @ Arizona - 9:30 CDT (ESPN)

9/25
Ball State @ Iowa (ESPN/ESPN2/ABC Regional)

10/2
Penn State @ Iowa - 8pm (ESPN/ESPN2/ABC)

10/9
**Bye**

10/16
Iowa @ Michigan - 2:30 - ABC Regional

10/23
Wisconsin @ Iowa - (ESPN/ESPN2/ABC Regional/BTN)

10/30
Michigan State @ Iowa - (BTN/ESPN/ESPN2/ABC Regional)

11/6
Iowa @ Indiana (BTN/ESPN/ESPN2/ABC Regional)

11/13
Iowa @ Northwestern (BTN/ESPN/ESPN2/ABC Regional)

11/20
Ohio State @ Iowa (BTN/ESPN/ESPN2/ABC Regional)

11/27
Iowa @ Minnesota (BTN/ESPN/ESPN2/ABC Regional)

*Iowa/Iowa State note: this game is almost certainly an 11am kick on either ESPN, ESPN2 or BTN. The 2:30 window this week is filled with Miami @ Ohio State, so it is extremely unlikely they put another Big Ten game on ABC Regional that week).

I think the Wisconsin game could be huge. Too bad there's no flexibility there whatsoever.

We're gonna kick their ass, again, so what is so big about that one?

I'm much more concerned about the 10/9 weekend match-up with Bye not being televised.

I made a change above. I had read the sources I use incorrectly, Iowa v Wisconsin and Penn State v Minnesota are the two games which are available for 2:30 (for some reason I thought Iowa wasn't included when I put this together last night). That game could land either at 11am or 2:30 pm, but it can't end up in the currently available prime time slot.

The Big Ten's situation with ABC is odd this year. It appears that there will be no Big Ten game on ABC at 2:30pm on either of the first two weeks of the season, and it also appears that fewer Big Ten games are available in primetime than in years past.

I missed the announcement of the start time for the Arizona game. Ugh, freaking 930pm. Was hoping somehow this would be a 2:30pm game.

From TOS (not sure of accuracy) but damn, that is a bonerific non-conference lineup for 9/11.

First post updated: The Ball State game will be on ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC. All the BTN slots for that date have been filled.

My mother-in-law who lives in Iowa City heard that the Wisconsin game might be a night game. God knows where she heard that one, but I'm throwing it out there.

The releases early in the year said that PSU would be Iowa's only night game this year.

The ABC 2:30 game is either Iowa/Wisconsin or Penn State/Minnesota. There are already 3 games assigned to ESPN/ESPN2/BTN at 11am, so I can't tell what happens to the other game. There is a night slot that week, and no Big Ten game assigned to it. It's possible one of those two games ends up on BTN at 2:30, but there currently isn't any opening there.

The games available to ABC that night are uninspiring to say the least. Nebraska/Okie State is that day, as is Oklahoma/Mizzou. Those are the only semi-interesting Big XII games. Georgia Tech/Clemson is that day out of the ACC, otherwise their slate sucks too, and the Pac-10 games are already assigned.

That game becomes national in significance if Wisconsin beats OSU, but that game is only 1 week before and therefore can't impact the Iowa/Wisky kick time. Also, the Wisky/OSU game is a night (ESPN) kick, so I'd be a little surprised to see Wisconsin in Primetime twice in two weeks.

Short answer: it's possible, but very unlikely based on the early statement from the league.

I wouldn't doubt that it could be a night game. As it stands right now, it is by far the biggest match up of the day on 10/23.

Iowa has a great shot at being undefeated and ranked in the top 5 and Wisconsin should be no worse than 6-1 and possibly undefeated if they pull off the upset at home vs. Ohio State the week before.

Like I said, it came from my 60 year old/artist/mother-in-law. Though she does surprise me from time to time.

Correct. That's a likely scenario, but I can see this game landing on ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Yes, but during league season they are relatively lightly used. Right now Purdue/OSU, UI/Illinois and MSU/NU are the options for 11am on ESPN/ESPN2/BTN, however it is possible that more than one of them ends up on BTN, opening a spot at 11am.

There is also an ESPNU spot open at 11am and an ESPN Classic spot. Iowa could, hypothetically, land on either of them.

I would think it would take one or both teams really shitting the bed early for that game to not land on ABC at 2:30. Penn State/Minnesota is significantly less attractive.

I honestly don't understand the primetime ABC system entirely. Our game is by far the most interesting game of the day, and the Big Ten can only take that night slot the first 8 or 9 weeks of the year, but not that week. I don't get it.

Re: Wisky night game possibility -

Any chance it gets put in that 6:00 timeslot on the BTN that Iowa/MSU was in last year that very same weekend, or is there already a night game scheduled on the BTN that night?

I'm sure the UI "Think Before You Drink" Crew will be thrilled to have a second night game this year.

I don't think so.

I believe the picks have been made, so the game will end up on an ESPN network. The question is which one. The more I think about it, it's either going to be ESPN/2/U at 11am or ABC at 2:30.

Just did a little checking. Under the current agreement, Big Ten games cannot be shown on ESPNU.
