Default Anybody sleep in different bed than SO?

Read Tripper's post and had read the same article about a growing number of couples. Just seems odd to me, but thinking about, I know a few (mostly older) couples who do this...

King size or different houses are the only 2 possibilities.

While we sleep in the same bed, I have two random thoughts on the subject after reading the piece:

1. Why the societal fixation with sleeping in the same bed? It's a weird tradition that I happily comply with, but it makes no real sense. It's like so many things that we do where we don't even know the rationale, we just do it because everybody does it.

2. What is the functional difference between a King Size bed and side by side twin beds mentioned in the piece? Consciously or subconsciously, we'd all think it was "odd" to enter our neighbor's bedroom and see side by side twin beds, but don't think anything of a king size, where the parties are just as far apart. To me, they're the same thing.

That is the exact article I read. You must have ESP.

This, but the wife did sleep on the couch for about 2 years, until I got my sinuses fixed.

1. I think it comes down to an affectionate intimacy that women need. Rather its cuddling or just sleeping close in same bed.

2. Because the two twin bed owners are likely recreating camp sexual fantasies at night.

i typically sleep with my arms aroudn my wife, provided its not too hot. we also have the cat in bed as well.

however if I am up too late online or reading or whatever, and I wake her up, she will not hesitate to go into one of the guest rooms to sleep.

It's not that I bought it, more that I didn't care as long as I got my 8 hrs, she could sleep wherever or with whomever.

Now, I'd chop an arm off for 8 hrs of solid sleep.

Probably correct, but that's completely undermined by a king size.

I've been sleeping on the couch off and on for about 3 weeks. It's too damn hot in my room.

Ceiling fan above the bed was one of the better little projects I've done in the house.

We have one. It clicks, apparently. I can't hear it, but she can, and it keeps her awake.

You can get a nice new fan for under $100 and since there's already one there you could get it switched out in no time.

It wasn't installed correctly if it makes any noise at all. Or, it's a cheap fan.

We have a king size, but we do snuggle when we sleep. We like the extra room for our "fun."

I bet the return air vent in your bedroom is near the floor, not the ceiling.

I was just trying to make a joke about what your 'fun time' was, but given that you have more kids than times Stinky's had sex I guess it really doesn't make that much sense.

I have Mr. S, a golden retriever, and a cat in my bed every night. I think I need a king size for Christmas :P

Complaining aside, It's always sad when mr. S is travelling for work, it gets lonely with only the dog and the cat. I don't think I'd like it if we had seperate beds or seperate rooms.

I can't imagine having a dog sleep in my bed. Damn things have a body temperature north of 100 degrees. My dog sleeps in the office, with her head on the window frame so she can see everything.

My wife and I have discussed separate beds, and no, I'm not old balls. I don't think it's a big deal at all. 90% of our "fooling around" occurs outside of the bedroom so sharing a bed isn't a big deal. Hell, our baby that is due in Sept. was conceived on the living room floor.

If you not ready for two beds, get a king.

The wife and I sleep close, but on a king size bed. My kids get up at about 5:00-6:30 any given morning and I don't need them crawling all over me (they do anyway) as they're in there with us. The king size gives us plenty of room in the mornings. It also provides plenty of room for late night fun.

I assume you have no kids, now? If you do have kids, I'd be interested in how you've managed to keep the "outside the bedroom" fun going. All of our marital extracurriculars have to be undertaken behind the locked bedroom door, lest an awoken 9, 6 or 3 year old come stumbling downstairs. That is a trauma I don't intend to inflict on my kids.

We have one. It clicks, apparently. I can't hear it, but she can, and it keeps her awake.
You can get a nice new fan for under $100 and since there's already one there you could get it switched out in no time.

No LMs in our bed. Not negotiable, unless it's one of the handful of times during the year when LM4 has a nightmare. Then I usually go lay with him in his bed.

So LM4 has a king sized bed too?

We've got a TV on the wall that the kids can watch their cartoons on. We've got a sofa at the foot of the bed, but I have no issues with the kids crawling up to watch with us in the mornings (they watch, I sleep).

In general, however, I have no issues with the kids in the bed (besides crumbs). Our Blu-Ray is in the bedroom, so movie night often brings 5-6 in the bed watching movies together. Once I vacuum up the popcorn it is all good.

No TVs in bedrooms either.

If you not ready for two beds, get a king.
We have one kid-she's still in a crib and goes to bed at 8:00 so we still have run of the house. We do understand that our days of freelancing in the house are numbered.

You're missing out on one of the great joys of life. Laying in bed watching TV (or moreso--movies) is about 100 times more relaxing than being in the living room watching it. Additionally, it gives you about a 500% greater chance of imediately turning the second-half of some chick-flic you're watching with the wife into a much more enjoyable time.*

My computers are in the bedroom too, so it makes it much more convenient to watch TV while I'm doing design-work on the Mac.

*See earlier post about marital extra-curriculurs having to be done behind locked doors these days.

My wife has a friend whose 14-month old sleeps with them every GD night. "She just won't sleep otherwise."

Eff that.

She's gotta sleep sometime.

This is just plain laziness as a parent.
