Default Baseball Hall of Fame

This year's inductees, if any, will be announced today. Who gets in? Robbie Alomar & Bert Blyleven are thought to be headed in after narrow misses last year. Anyone else?

Blyleven is a no-brainer, as is Alomar.

Santo should still be in, though.

After further review of Santo's career, I tend to agree. However, his fate is in the hands of the Veteran's Committee now.

I'll bet Bagwell comes close, and maybe even sneaks in on his first ballot. He has a sneaky-good HOF resume.

I see Alomar getting in. I was never a fan of his during his playing days, but when you look at his numbers you could make a great arguement that he does deserve it.
Bagwell probably gets close, but not sure if he gets in right now.

No way Alomar should get in if Will Clark isn't in.

Blyleven has been deserving for years. Santo as well.

I'm of the opinion that I don't want the veteran's committee to elect Santo. IMO, it would be a disservice to the man, and he was very vocal about not wanting to be elected post-mortem. Santo deserved to be in the Hall 10 years ago, and now that he has passed, he's all of a sudden good enough? Eff Joe Morgan and his veteran committee lackies. A majority of knowledgeable fans know that Santo should have already been in the Hall. Ron knew the fans knew it, which was good enough for him when he was passed over repeatedly.

But I will be happy for Bert when he gets the call today. About time for him.

Yeah, if anything the voting process has been shown to be a sham for quite some time now.

Veteran's Committee voted last month and selected former GM Pat Gillick, so there will be no discussion of Santo again for another 11 months.

Like I said earlier, I hope they don't bring him up for discussion then either. Ron deserved to go in when he was alive. His stats haven't changed since his death.

Santo wasn't even one of the finalists.

The entire process is a joke. Someone like Bill Mazeroski is good enough to be in the Hall because of basically one moment in his career, while a guy who was a perennial All-Star while having diabetes isn't.

+eleventy billion. I would forego the remainder of the football season and the entire NCAA tournament if it meant Opening Day was tomorrow. Hawkeye football is the only thing that even comes close on the register of sports that I care about anymore.

I agree with cj and ISU on Santo, as well. If they select him, I hope his family tells Joe Morgan & Co. to eff off.

I'd rather have a discussion about fantasy football than a discussion about any hall of fame. You boring-ass losers.

Very well put. I'm not too interested in the NFL. NBA means nothing to me. I like March Madness, but not as much as opening day of baseball!

Will Clark is a renowned racist. He makes Jeff Kent look like a decent human being.

That said, it shouldn't affect his Hall of Fame chances. But it probably does (whatever chance there may have been, at least). Which is why the Hall of Fame is stupid and not worth fretting over.

Yeah, much like Mama Cass choking to death on a ham sandwich (which also wasn't true), I'm going to go ahead and say it really happened.

Alomar, Blyleven and Raines should go in. But it most likely will be Alomar and Blyleven.

Santo should also go in and probably will now that he's died. F'n HOF process blows ass.

And I know most of you hate numbers but here's the all time rankings based off of Bill James' formula.

He does not have a "sneaky-good" HoF resume. He will probably get elected in a few years, but not now.

Yes. And that is also a stupid part of the process. Either he's a HOFer or not. He is. And should already be in. We shouldn't need this f'n Veteran's ballot.

The fact they only vote every two years for the Veterans' Committee makes it even worse.

But I'm glad to see Blyleven got in. It's long overdue, and the idiots who cited his career record as a reason for him not getting in can now shut it.
