What the fuck? I was going to vote for 8 but now I am boycotting this shitty poll.

Northern Illinois will give us a hell of a game next year. Seriously.

They probably would have beat us at the end of last year.

I'm always absurdly optimistic, so I'll say 9 wins, like I did in 2011.

Most people are probably like me, so even if we're right it probably doesn't mean a lot.

I think the naysayers have more riding on this one--if they're wrong and KF and the Hawks do get to 9 wins in 2012 they need to STFU about Kirk.

Iowa has to win at least 9 games in one of the next three seasons for me to continue to support Iowa retaining KF as head coach.

We lose one home game (not sure to who, other than it won't be Iowa State or Nebraska). Three road games.

8-4.

Maybe. That would be the type of late Hayden or Tom Davis era records that really might not cut it with much or most of the fan base.

Moi and most Iowa fans want a serious run at a Big Ten conference title or a BCS bowl at least one out of every 4 or 5 years--Hayden lost favor with the fan base when he wasn't able to deliver on this in the 92-98 period.

If Iowa won one Big Ten championship over the next three years, I wouldn't care if we won 5 games or less in the other two years and most of the fan base wouldn't either. Because of 2009, the meter starts running for me on KF if he doesn't deliver on a BT title or at the least a VERY serious run for one by 2014--so I guess three seasons of 8-4 won't do it for me unless we make it to the BT championship game in one of those years.

We lose 2 of the first 4. 5-3 in the Big Ten, which won't be a good league.

Hayden had 3 straight seasons of 6 wins or less in that 6 year stretch and 1 season with a 3-8 record.

And if he'd delivered on a BT championship in 96 or 97 all would have been forgiven.

And we were so tantalizingly close in 96. Down 13-7 at home at ht to a NW team that had inferior talent but that came out in the 2nd half and wanted it more and kicked our ass 40-13.

I think you're making quite a stretch to equate the waning Hayden support at the end of his career to what would happen to KF if he went 8-4 the next three years. Plus you also mentioned Tom Davis. One would think SOME Hawkeye fans might actually have learned a "careful what you wish for" lesson on that one.

6-6 seems about right unless Rudock, Garmin, and Johnson become freshmen all-Americans.

You're missing the point.

Iowa fans will forgive any Iowa coach for pretty much any record in any 3 or 4 year stretch if they win a BT conference title in one of those years.

Three 8-4 records in a row with no BT championship or anything close creates much more heat for an Iowa coach than a 5-7, BT championship, 5-7 record over three years. Hayden went 11-10-11 in 88 and 89 but all was forgiven because of 1990. See again Tom Davis for the basketball equivalent which makes the point better than looking at Hayden or KF.

If Tom Davis wins one regular season BT championship or even a serious run in the 91-99 period he keeps his job even with a much worse overall record than he ended up having per overall wins and success in the NCAA tourney. And he kind of did get screwed in 97, when the Minnesota cheaters won it and Iowa finished in a tie for 2nd and got a horrible seed in the tourney.

I get your point I just disagree with you if you think 8-4 is gonna be what puts the heat on him. Multiple season of 6-6 or less? Yes. 8-4? No, and it shouldn't.

We lost to all of those teams last year, except Michigan which is now on the road, and NW which is also on the road (when is the last time we won in Evanston?).

I don't see any reason to think the 2012 Hawks will be better than the 2011 Hawks.

Losing on the road in triple overtime to ISU when their retard now backup QB had the game of his life surely means we are SCREWED! SCREWED! when Iowa State comes to Kinnick!

You employ the "When's the last time Iowa won at Evanston?" logic, but don't acknowledge that Minnesota nor Iowa State have won in Iowa City since 1999/2002.

Look, I'm not saying Iowa is going to win 12 games. But if you predict 5-7, you're probably more fucking retarded than me if I did predict 12 wins.

No. This team is going to be average. Our somewhat unproven TE is our most frightening weapon. Our front seven on defense is at worst a mess and at best average and undersized.

Iowa hasn't had that kind of year since 2000. With their schedule, predicting the worst season in 12 years is as close to mentally disabled as it comes.

I'm not saying Iowa is going to be a good team. I'm saying they'll win 7 games by default of schedule.

Christ on a bike. I hate agreeing with Doug, but I really fucking hate Iowa fans right now.

Christ on a bike. I hate agreeing with Doug, but I really fucking hate Iowa fans right now.
So you are saying, that by default we will be exactly the same as last year, despite all of the players we lose?

Ok, I disagree. I really don't have any more to add.

And most of us hate UNI fans.

In a stunning turn of events, Iowa is the only team in the nation that lost some players due to graduation and attrition.

6 wins. Iowa is markedly worse at almost every position. First round NFL tackle gone, all big 10 back gone, all time receiver gone, etc. Mix in shitty safeties and an average at best d line.

Yep, that is a recipe for 10 wins. Fucking idiots.

No, because Iowa wasn't the only team to lose players!

/retarded optimistic guy

For the most part, when Iowa's Dline sucks, Iowa sucks, and Iowa's Dline should be absolutely atrocious this season.

I think Iowa has a 9-3, 7-5 and 5-7 in store over the next three years. I just have no idea which year is which

No - predicting this particular team will have Iowa's best season in the program's entire history is much, much closer.

My schedule only reads 1 week in advance:

1 week from now: Idle

0-0

7-5 is the answer, probably 7-6 after the who-gives-a-shit bowl.

The ONLY reason to be slightly optimistic for this team is its weak ass schedule.

"Slightly Optimistic" for me is 7-5.

Doey's post above is right on (damn that was painful).
