Northern Illinois will give us a hell of a game next year. Seriously.
They probably would have beat us at the end of last year. |

I'm always absurdly optimistic, so I'll say 9 wins, like I did in 2011.
Most people are probably like me, so even if we're right it probably doesn't mean a lot. I think the naysayers have more riding on this one--if they're wrong and KF and the Hawks do get to 9 wins in 2012 they need to STFU about Kirk. Iowa has to win at least 9 games in one of the next three seasons for me to continue to support Iowa retaining KF as head coach. |

We lose one home game (not sure to who, other than it won't be Iowa State or Nebraska). Three road games.
8-4. |

Moi and most Iowa fans want a serious run at a Big Ten conference title or a BCS bowl at least one out of every 4 or 5 years--Hayden lost favor with the fan base when he wasn't able to deliver on this in the 92-98 period. If Iowa won one Big Ten championship over the next three years, I wouldn't care if we won 5 games or less in the other two years and most of the fan base wouldn't either. Because of 2009, the meter starts running for me on KF if he doesn't deliver on a BT title or at the least a VERY serious run for one by 2014--so I guess three seasons of 8-4 won't do it for me unless we make it to the BT championship game in one of those years. We lose 2 of the first 4. 5-3 in the Big Ten, which won't be a good league.

Hayden had 3 straight seasons of 6 wins or less in that 6 year stretch and 1 season with a 3-8 record.

And we were so tantalizingly close in 96. Down 13-7 at home at ht to a NW team that had inferior talent but that came out in the 2nd half and wanted it more and kicked our ass 40-13. Last edited by pjhawk; 02-07-2012 at 07:28 PM. |

I think you're making quite a stretch to equate the waning Hayden support at the end of his career to what would happen to KF if he went 8-4 the next three years. Plus you also mentioned Tom Davis. One would think SOME Hawkeye fans might actually have learned a "careful what you wish for" lesson on that one.

6-6 seems about right unless Rudock, Garmin, and Johnson become freshmen all-Americans.

Iowa fans will forgive any Iowa coach for pretty much any record in any 3 or 4 year stretch if they win a BT conference title in one of those years. Three 8-4 records in a row with no BT championship or anything close creates much more heat for an Iowa coach than a 5-7, BT championship, 5-7 record over three years. Hayden went 11-10-11 in 88 and 89 but all was forgiven because of 1990. See again Tom Davis for the basketball equivalent which makes the point better than looking at Hayden or KF. If Tom Davis wins one regular season BT championship or even a serious run in the 91-99 period he keeps his job even with a much worse overall record than he ended up having per overall wins and success in the NCAA tourney. And he kind of did get screwed in 97, when the Minnesota cheaters won it and Iowa finished in a tie for 2nd and got a horrible seed in the tourney. Last edited by pjhawk; 02-07-2012 at 07:47 PM. |

You employ the "When's the last time Iowa won at Evanston?" logic, but don't acknowledge that Minnesota nor Iowa State have won in Iowa City since 1999/2002. Look, I'm not saying Iowa is going to win 12 games. But if you predict 5-7, you're probably more fucking retarded than me if I did predict 12 wins.

I'm not saying Iowa is going to be a good team. I'm saying they'll win 7 games by default of schedule.
Christ on a bike. I hate agreeing with Doug, but I really fucking hate Iowa fans right now.

6 wins. Iowa is markedly worse at almost every position. First round NFL tackle gone, all big 10 back gone, all time receiver gone, etc. Mix in shitty safeties and an average at best d line.
Yep, that is a recipe for 10 wins. Fucking idiots. |

The ONLY reason to be slightly optimistic for this team is its weak ass schedule.
"Slightly Optimistic" for me is 7-5. Doey's post above is right on (damn that was painful). |
