I know I am talking about a walk-on, but unless something changes I will be shocked if Hadachek does not walk on at Iowa.

That would be nice. Isn't he still committed to Illinois?
Yes but I gotta think that's not for long. There's no way you open up your recruitment, especially to three other schools in the league, and end up staying committed.

Iowa begins the annual tradition of raiding MAC commits a week from signing day. They snagged a big fish from Ball State today! Book your plane tickets, boyz, we are one step closer to the Rose Bowl.

Welcome to the family 5'10'' (likely 5'9'') Desmond King!

Doug is right. You don't stay committed to ball st if Wisconsin has offered.

Does he at least run a self reported 4.3?

what other DB's did we have offers out to? i dont think this really means that we missed out on anyone, and its certainly better than giving a ride to hadachek.

He looks like a player. All time interception leader in Michigan. Black. Quick but not fast.

What's not to like? He's short, but that doesn't seem to matter.

I'm fine with it...seems superior to typical fallback, and we'll probably never avoid having a couple in each class.

Looks like a really good football player who can make plays. The question seems to be whether he can run fast enough.

teh fball negativity on this board is off the deep end. this year's recruit class appears about the same as the classes that got us to 3 straight final 8 in the polls type seasons, including a bcs bowl victory.

the key is do they stay. if we lose half (or more) of them in 1 or 2 years, it's a bust. if not, it's prolly a great class.

if this is the type of class we now get after 3 crap seasons (compared to the 2008 class) then we are a pretty fucking good program.

I think Lanning likely would have to play LB.

I think he's probably a D-1 contributor, though not a star. I would have said the same thing about Jake Knott, and Lanning is a fairly similar high school athlete.

I was referring to the likelihood that he gets to or remains at Iowa. Nothing to do with his athletic ability. Strong rumors in the community lead to believe he's not the sharpest tool in the shed.

You continue to say this, but we have zero recruits at perhaps our biggest position of current and future need (i.e DE - and only WR is remotely close). It's certainly not an embarassing haul, but making it out to be program saving or even stabilizing is a huge stretch, IMO. It's a keep on keeping on type of class, and the question is whether that's enough to help change the current program trend line.

This isn't even mentioning that half of these 3* guys would have likely been 2* guys back in 2008. Rivals and others have made the 3* the virtual base line for anyone with a FBS offer.

Ike Boettger, Nathan Bazata, Andre Harris, Desmond King, Damond Powell, Nic Shimonek, Derrick Willies, Trevon Young (I know he isn't a recruit anymore) would have all been 2* players just a few years ago. This isn't even mentioning that they are likely to pick up their usual late 2-3 guys who are around the 2* range.

You are looking at 10+ guys in that 2* range with no 4* players. This class is much closer to the 2008 class than it is the last 3 years.

more overreaction. most of those guys you mentioned have multiple BCS offers. there were guys in 2008 that were FCS level, tops.

Is your enthusiasm for this class any less over the top than doug's critique of it? I think BBK is right that this class doesn't blow your hair back, though it might be solid. It also doesn't address key needs.

Yeah, I think people are forgetting just how bad that class was Jason Semmes, Shane Prater, Casey McMillen, JD Griggs etc. Brad Herman was one of the higher ranked guys in that class.

2009 was even worse, guys like Josh Brown, Scott Covert, Dakota Getz (although he was decent on special teams) Tyler Harrell, Martin Hopkins, Matt Murphy, some dude named Stephane Ngoumou, Jake Reisen and Anthony Schiavone. Just disgusting.

Bullshit.

Nathan Bazata - South Dakota state is only other offer
Ike Boettger - Zero other offers and was shocked to get one at all from Iowa
Desmond King - MAC schools
Nic Shimonek - Lamar was only other offer
Derrick Willies - Iowa State and no others
Trevon Young - Iowa State and no others
Andre Harris - Illinois

The 2* guys from 2008 had similar or better offers:

Steve Bigach - Air Force
Greg Castillo - BYU, MAC schools
Joe Gaglione - Indiana, Pitt
J.D. Griggs - Kansas State, Maryland, Temple
Jewell Hampton - MAC
William Lowe - Official visits to NC State, Indiana and offers from North Carolina, West Virginia and MAC
Casey McMillan - Colorado State, Wyoming
Trent Mossbrucker - Illinois, Indiana, Army, Northern Illinois, Wyoming
Shane Prater - Air Force, Nebrantska
Adam Robinson - UNI
Jason Seemes - Air Force, Buffalo
Jack Swanson - Purdue, FIU

It isn't really even close and the simple fact is that Rivals gives a 3* to virtually anyone with a FBS offer today when they used to be much more selective with it.

I think this class sucks. ive never been overly excited about it. not sure where you got that idea. however, factor in our record, and its decent.

i just think that our recruiting floor has raised significantly in the past few years, and if we are reaching for kids, we are reaching in favor of athleticism rather than position need.

I have to second Doug here.

Not having a single recruit at DE (their biggest need) tells me that they have no fucking idea what they're doing.
