It's not who starts rather who ends. Kirk will give Jake every chance to keep his starting job and Jake will fail. He will either piss his pants or get "injured". I have no doubt in my mind Beathard will play a bunch this year and all (barring injury) of 2015 and probably 2016. Again, I like Jake just not as the starter.

I'm telling ya, Kirk is more aware these days with guys like Brian and white on staff. He is trolling us. I'm not kidding.
Kirk makes personnel decisions like a guy who has millions in the bank and a contract that guarantees him millions more.

If he were coaching for his job, he'd start CJ. At this point he can afford to do whatever the fuck he wants.

Why is KF comparing, even if implicitly, '13 Rudock to '14 Beathard?

CJ rescued the Pitt game and played very well in his first start on the road. Jake has looked pedestrian in Ball St and UNI, and downright limited in the ISU game.

You're going to halt the momentum the clearly better QB built up over weeks 4 and 5? So Stooooooooooooopid.

He won't piss his pants. That's the problem. Jake is a perfectly fine quarterback. He's not going to be shitty enough for Kirk to be forced to make the switch if he doesn't want to.

I don't disagree but it will happen.

I don't think they will boo. It will just be boring Kinnick like it was the first three home games. Think they would have an easier time unloading those 4k available tickets for each of the remaining games if Beathard was named the starter. Based solely on raised interest level.

Kirk has already made the switch. Jake could have played vs pitt and he could have played last week.

All is not so bad in Iowa City. Keep some perspective.

They fucking booed the team off the field at halftime of the UNI game. They booed during the Ball State game. They booed during the Iowa State game. If Rudock comes out and doesn't do anything the first few series and Indiana gets a lead, the boos will fucking rain down.

It is pretty much a fact at this point Joe Fan wants Beathard. They see him as a savior of the boring fucking home games they have been subjected to for 3 years. He went into the Pitt game and saved it and played well enough at Purdue in their eyes. Now it comes out that Ferentz has gone against all logic and thrown up the middle finger at them in their view.

The boos will flow like cheap beer at Kinnick if this doesn't go perfectly for Rudock.

I think that's a fair point, Howler. Jake isn't bad - and if last Saturday showed us everything, he's not the critical cog holding back the high powered Greg Davis offense.

He's just not all that good, either.

We all have pretty much said Jake is a good QB, but not for this team. It isn't that Beathard is all that great yet, but he is good and the right person to help this team.

And you're gonna announce it 11 days prior to the game? Why? Because he's a dumbfuck.

CJ wins the game at Pitt. "I sure am glad he didn't fucking suck like he did in practice this week."
Jake is average at best all year. "Jake was tremendous in 2013."
Greg Davis offenses rankings in conference: 2012: 11th, 2013: 9th, 2014: 13th "Greg is tremendous."

So, if Jake is a wet dream and Greg is tremendous, what's the problem with the offense, Kirk?

Again, CJ should quit the team.

I don't disagree. I'd rather see more of CJ too. I'm just being pessimistic about the overall offensive philosophy.

Davis mentioned in his interview that it was great Iowa had a certain number of "explosives" in the Purdue game. i.e. pass plays of over 16 yards, rushes over 12. Say what you will, but I see that as a reasonable benchmark for success for this team, yet Jake will almost certainly not meet those numbers moving forward.

Gus will be booing. I'll be booing at home.

I want people to know, I'm booing KF and GD and especially that fucking faggot Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz who is too much of a pussy to do anything about this offense. Also the target for my boos will be Jake Rudock. You wanna be a doctor. Go do it. I don't fucking care.

Attendance won't be great, and if Jake struggles early, the fans will howl. Which, again, sucks for everyone. Jake will have missed a game and a half, plus an off week, and will likely start slowly- plus Iowa's offense is shitty to begin with.

I would like to revise what I said above, and that is the boos won't likely come in the first half. I have every reason to believe that you will see something similar to the Ball State game when they gave Rudock the first series and then brought in Beathard the next series. They will likely be smart enough to realize they need to give him a series in the 2nd quarter as well.

Where the real fun will start is after halftime when Ferentz tends to turtle up. I could see him pulling a Pitt 2008 and sticking with one guy no matter how the game is going.

This is the fucking worst all the way around. He really goes out of his way to make the worst possible decisions sometimes. I would also be shocked if he has the balls to play both of them on the road at Maryland. He could barely bring himself to give him a single series in the Ball State game at home.

He really is a dumb fuck. The right decision all the way around was to stick with Beathard and then he would be free to go with Rudock if he sucked. He would have protected Rudock, had the upper hand with fans and stayed with the hot hand while letting Rudock fully heal. Fucking idiot.

I think attendance will be better than you think. It will be Homecoming and the only home game in October.

I'm still pissed at how much Iowa ran right and up the fucking middle on Saturday. I don't give a shit if Scherff isn't 100%.

I know without a doubt that Greg Davis prefers Beathard. Part of me, without losing too many games, hopes that he sabotages the play calls he gives to Rudock and makes everything a check down.

That would require him being smart, so I doubt he could pull it off.

I said that during chat as well. You have the best left tackle in college football and a pretty good young guard on the left side and you choose to run over and over right behind a struggling right guard who is playing like shit.

They'll bounce around for a few weeks then settle on CJ. Also, Doug will vote at the end of the year and be right!

Fuck this. Turning this into some "CJ has earned the right to play a little too" bullshit is inexcusable.

There's a difference between booing the coaching at the end of the half and booing the team off the field. I was there, it wasn't THAT bad.

I voted already that Rudock would crack.

Hopefully with Ferentz announcing this bullshit 11 days in advance it pisses Beathard off and he continues to play with his balls out when he comes into the game and not worry about impressing Ferentz as if this was some sort of open competition.

This wasn't an open competition last year and it wasn't again this off season. It clearly is a situation where Rudock has to be permanently injured or completely crack under the pressure while Beathard plays out of his ass for him to be named the starter full time.

I've got some Kyle McCann inspired feelings rising in me again and I'm not proud of them.

Kirk is oblivious to concepts like team floors and ceilings and how his QB choices affect them. Or don't.

Ferentz has utter contempt for Iowa fans at this point. He's trying to do the football equivalent of Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music".

2012: 11th
2013: 9th
2014: 13th

For a minute, I started to give Greg Davis a pass because KF is such a complete dumbfuck, but then I realized it doesn't matter all that much who is running this shit show.

Greg Davis is just tremendous.

Jake would probably be more than adequate in any other offense. It just so happens that we have the worst offensive coordinator in all of football and you have to be Warren Moon to make it look like anything other than a pile of steaming shit. But our coach doesn't want to play Warren Moon. Our coach wants to play Cody Carlson.

I presume we will see a new improved version of Jake Rudock vs. Indiana. But if Indiana starts lighting things up like they are capable of doing then things may start moving to fast for Jake. If we get down by 10 or more listen for the booing and look for Beathard to come in. It won't be an ideal situation for CJB but neither was Pittsburgh.

Texas proved it's possible to have a successful offense under GD. You just have to make sure your QB is either the Heisman Trophy winner (Vince Young) or a finalist (Colt McCoy).

It is sorta interesting Kirk and GDGD don't seem to be 100% on the same page. Will Kirk pull back media access to GDGD?

More important than who the QB is would be some self scouting by the offensive coaches during this bye week.

I don't actually think this is more important because they are stubborn dumbfucks and it wouldn't do any good other than identify the need to "execute".
