I felt pretty shitty about this team but woke up and realized something. They were in coin flip games against two top 10 teams over the past week. As shitty as the defense has been, they win at Illinois with competent officiating and beat OSU just by shooting their average on free throws and converting one or two of their missed point blank opportunities. That is how close they have been..even without CJ Fredrick, who clearly makes them a better team.

We can bitch and moan about the defense. Yea, if they were even remotely competent on defense they would be a top 3 title contender. It’s a shame, but we have to accept that the defense is shitty and even with that being the case they are a top 10ish team that is simply coming up a tad short right now. Nothing has changed that should indicate to us that the sky is suddenly falling.
I’m rooting for you the rest of the way. I’d party w you.

Aside from like centers, basketball is basically positionless these days.

Connor is a basketball player. His role changes based on the other 4 guys on the floor. It’s not hard, people.
Sure, but he can’t guard really quick guards or post players and has to have 3 guys on the floor who can shoot with him.

If it helps, a month ago Illinois looked like a fraud and was 9-5.

Now they have won 4 in a row and are rolling.

Shit changes quickly.

I appreciate the optimism and am in the same camp, but I wouldn't use this argument. Ohio State, a very good free throw shooting team, was 13/19, Iowa was 11/17. Iowa loses to Rutgers if Rutgers hits their shots, and Iowa beats Minnesota if Iowa does as well.

Just leave it at this is still a top 10 or 15 team with a decent chance of playing on Sunday I. The BTT.

I get what you’re saying and I usually hate the “if only we had made more free throws or layups” argument. It’s true here though. Wieskamp and Garza are both leaving points at the line, uncharacteristic for Wieskamp’s career and Garza’s year. My point was more that the margin for error is really small in these games and those should climb back up.

As for Iowa playing on Sunday of the big ten tournament. Under Fran? Yea no. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Wieskamp is under 70%. It’s honestly the strangest thing about this season. Garza was really good at the line until last year. I thought for sure he would bounce back and it would be a focus of his off season. For whatever reason it seems to be the only thing he mentally struggles with. Frederick also isn’t as good as you’d think from the line but I think it has more to do with the line drive nature of his shot.

Joe T is a great free throw shooter unless he misses the first one. I believe all 3 times this year he missed the first he ended up missing the second.

Wieskamp’s free throws look flatter this year.

If Connor and Jordan quit the team tomorrow, I wil do a walkathon across America for the charity of their choice. (Minus expenses, of course)

Why do all of our wing defenders collapse to the post and leave a shooter wide open for three ALL THE TIME?!?!

They were doing a great job of running shooters off the line and forcing mid-range jumpers. Then switch to zone and give up set shot threes.

I posted it. Don’t blame me that they have one of the best players in the country and surround him with soft teammates and questionable coaching.
