My group walked into St Elmo’s when they opened on Saturday afternoon in 2015 and grabbed seats at the upstairs bar. Limited bar menu for food but ended up being a great pregame spot and had several tv’s to watch the other games.

@minknate

I would appreciate there being an actual statement on what rankings are supposed to represent, and then follow that. I can believe Alabama is one of the best two teams, but they lost to Texas A&M who from my understanding have been a mix of unimpressive and bad. So ranking them 2nd right now should qualify you to lose your vote.

Exactly. Of course both methods are subjective, but there is a big difference between judging the resume of teams, vs. simply listing how good you think a team looks.

Imagine having Cincy higher than Iowa
I poked around on reddit and there's a hot take thread where a Cincy fan said:

Ok, then I’ll rephrase my opinion to something even bolder that follows the same spirit (and is still something I legitimately believe:

With all teams healthy, Iowa would lose to everybody else in the top 10 on a neutral field.

Side note - there are a LOT of pissy fans from other schools. Not just PSU and ISU but Nebrantska and OSU for some reason

It's the lack of flashy offense in 2021 and winning games with pure defense. People aren't used to that and they get annoyed by it.

Fuck em.

Iowa’s reputation is ugly. I’d guess most teams that play them largely dread it. You will play their game, and you won’t like it.

It’s the type of team they can’t fucking believe you lost to! For fucks sake they have multiple white dbacks AND receivers, and use a fullback, and take snaps under center, and do quarterback sneaks, and celebrate punting and kicking. It’s all a giant FUCK YOU to modernity. They APPROPRIATELY did the victory formation leaving time on the clock.

That’s Iowa football, and it’s singular. And tough shit, deal with it, because they’re good and getting better.

95% of the general public college fans think that the Texas vs. Oklahoma game was SICK!! and super exciting and thrilling. 55-48 game where there are kinds of "incredible" plays and scores but zero defense being played.

I'm not saying I think Iowa has some awesome offense or that anyone even likes it (most of us hate it), but people that really follow college football and especially most of the former players/coaches absolutely respect the entire Iowa game plan.

They never change, they aren't afraid to take games deep into the 2nd half and they love to physically punish you and break your spirit. They are the only program that would go victory formation from the opponent's 45 yard line on 2nd down knowing that they have to punt it back to them and give them another "chance" to win the game.

It's frustrating sometimes, but it's fucking beautiful when Kirk actually has the personnel to pull it off at an elite level.

The only thing I am sure of is that no team the rest of the year actually will enjoy playing against Iowa. They might not win out, but any team that beats them will have to withstand getting beat to shit and catch multiple lucky breaks.

I hope Kirk keeps coaching at least 5 more years. We have all sort of wondered what Iowa would look like if they had a decent amount of elite 5* and 4* talent mixed in with the Tommy Soybean and under-recruited Detroit 2* guys.

If he can stick around, I think we start to see it in the next few years.

Knock on wood, but we always were jealous of Wisconsin's run with Alavarez/Bert/Anderson/Chryst for about a decade, and if a few things keep going like they are going, it might be Iowa's turn.

my favorite r/CFB thing is when after a game fans will exchange “good game, Hawkeye bros” posts because it’s just assumed there are zero women there.

Minny losing their RB (averaging 110 YPG).

That can't be good. Normally you would think of an appendicitis or something that caused the initial hospitalization, but being out for the season would seem to indicate a much more serious condition.

Does he want to try being a walk on safety?
