This is incredible. Either we really brought in a stellar class, or the upper class guys aren't panning out like we thought:

But the Hawkeyes will get a look at several members of their 2007 recruiting class. Ferentz said nearly a dozen true freshmen are in contention for playing time, and five first-year players (Sandeman, No. 2 left tackle Bryan Bulaga, co-No. 2 cornerback Cedric Everson, co-No. 2 cornerback Jordan Bernstine and co-No. 2 strong safety Diauntae Morrow) are listed on the depth chart.

"Right now we still have 10 to 12 in contention that we're thinking about playing," Ferentz said. "A couple of those guys aren't in the two deep per se, but they're in our rotation, which makes them eligible for special teams play as well."

I fear the latter.

The more I look at this season the more it looks 6-6 or 7-5 which isn't the end of the world considering where we were in the late 90s, early 00s. Hopefully this is just a year or two bump in the road.

If UI goes 6-6 this year (as I was predicting since the end of last year), they'll have spent as much time in the mediocre stretch (3 years) as they did in the elite stretch (3 years).

I think 2001, 2005-2006 is the norm, and 2002-2004 was the aberration.
