That is 2 games over .500. One would have to play an odd number of games to finish one game over .500. They can be 10-9 and one game above with one to play, but can't finish that way. Hence, why he said impossible.you don't think they'll go 11-9? or that 11-9 wouldn't be an 8 seed?

Yes. And you lost one fewer game as well. 1+1=2.You have to play an even number of games to be at .500. 10-10.
Ok, so you win one more than a .500 team. You're 11-9. But that is two games over .500, because .500 would be 9-9. But that's 18. So there is no game over or game under .500. So you win one more game, but that's two games over.
