Agreed, but Kirk will come along and hire Budmayr to really deflate that erection.
I think that is a pretty likely outcome, hope it's not. But regardless, I have reached "anyone but Brian" and I hope that whomever comes in can at least combine running schemes and plays and passing schemes and plays in a functional way that makes sense and each support the other. Also, ideally they don't also suffer from quarterbackagnosia, and that seems nearly impossible they would hire someone else suffering from that affliction.

The “bar” for fixes needed with Iowa’s offense are painfully low. That’s probably the most annoying part of this entire situation.

The run game needs to work. The situational playcalling can’t be an abject clusterfuck, and Iowa needs to have route trees that “scheme” guys that lack elite athleticism open. Are there others? Sure, fine. But you fix those two/theee things and Iowa instantly becomes at least a middle of the road offense.

Brian Fartz, or Brain Fartz if you are a boomer, were there the whole time.
Why would New England hire Ferentz away? Well...there’s nothing in it for them, but it does represent some hope for Iowa fans desperate to find some way out of having Brain Fartz as the mastermind of the offense once more. The thinking goes that Kirk knows firing Brian would effectively end his coaching career and therefore no matter how bad things get he won’t pull the trigger be particularly happy with his and Brian’s boss Gary Barta if he should pull the trigger...but if his old buddy Bill and HIS buddy Bill would do Kirk a solid, it would protect Kirk’s Gary Barta’s boy, ensuring his coaching career continues.

This would then free up the offensive coordinator position at Iowa, allowing whoever it is that hires the offensive coordinator at Iowa to move in a new direction.

It might be a long shot, but there’s no extinguishing the hope of the Hawkeye faithful.

It’s been so nice and quiet around here without him. Smooth sailing.

Can we PLEASE just get someone with no ties to the Ferentz family. I know we can afford it.

Philbin was nothing but a Ferentz crony from Harvard for two years and not so bad for a year. Then came a perfect storm year with four 5th year seniors, one 6th year senior and a physical freak 4th year junior- all of whom stayed healthy all year. Behind them were an athletic quarterback and two excellent running backs and flanking them a future Pro Bowl tight end and a very good receiving contingent. At that point he became a genius and legend.

Kind of giving it short shrift. That same line you are referencing was lightly-recruited garbage just two years prior. And I'm hard pressed to think of an Iowa OL better than the '02 OL.

Leistikow said yesterday he anticipates media will meet with Kirk next week.
