Tim Lester is a significant upgrade to Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz . That does not mean you were wrong to be disappointed with the hire.

The main issue with the Lester hire was the communication. I think if it was clear from the beginning he was going to implement a Shanahan style offense peoples ears would have been perked a little more.

His press conference was very good and transparent compared to the childish defensiveness we’re used to. Including accountability to himself when he actually admitted to a poor play call. He clearly has a plan and the install is ongoing and focused.

It's mostly Kaleb, but the OL is obviously better.

We are always going to be at a slight skill position deficit on offense. But we will win a lot of games if the offense simply doesnt suck.

It won’t be an all time secondary but I think there’s some overreaction to a few plays and it seems Phil has figured out he can’t just sit back and not send pressure with this group against good offenses. It would help a ton if the front four good get more consistent pressure

my hope (still unrealized) is that QB play gradually improves as that is supposed to be lester's deal

They’ve lost games they shouldn’t have (certainly) but also have been among the best of the Midwest programs for a much longer time than what Iowa’s true level probably is. Assistants and schemes have changed a bit over that time period but Iowa being extremely fundamental, poised, and playing low penalty and turnover football is likely a direct result of KFs strategy and demeanor.
