Chris Beard must wonder where his life has gone wrong coaching Ole Piss in basketball in the year of our lord 2025. Luckily Ivan ruined college sports so he has an opportunity now.

That's a good win. Ole miss is built like a team we are going to struggle with in the B10. Will most certainly drop many of those but tonight was positive

Love it. Would rather play tough and in the 70s all day long rather than scoring 90 and losing by double digits. We've seen a lot of Fran teams fold like a cheap tuxedo in games like that many times.
Under Fran, the Hawks lose that game 90-80.

Very good win. I love it. It's just going to take some getting used to after 16 years of the polar opposite.

They play defense and walk every single possession up the floor. Odd seeing a team never ever looking to run. Zero fast break points.

I did doze off in the first 10 minutes of the game when nobody was scoring and again in the second half for a sec, but this is undoubtedly better than the shit sandwich the last couple years.

Stirtz is a killer and Cooper Koch is a stud.

He looks like the default create a character on nba2k, and I love him.

Damn, that was fun and impressive. Hard-nosed effort for 40 minutes in a physical game like that was a treat to watch. Just a bunch of dudes that willed their way to a win.

Stirtz just plays naturally and completely in control. He carried them in the first half when no one else could score and took over in the second half. Hopefully it was Koch’s coming out party. He was an animal on the glass going against a bunch of big athletic motherfuckers. Great to see the way he competed.

Ole Miss is going to win a lot of games. That win felt like a round of 32 type of game. And it will look really good on the resume and NET ranking come March.

Agree Yugo. This was McCollum adjusting to the opponent. We probably aren’t going to win that game by running with them.

Iowa tried a couple fast breaks with hilariously unsuccessful results. Went 1 on 3 from half court one time. Off target bounce pass rolled out of bounds another time.
Never did they have numbers.

It's nice to see a coach shorten his bench. Hausen, Sage and Jirak got 13 minutes combined. Fran would have played those 3 on the floor together for 13+ minutes and wonder why his starters were always digging themselves out of a hole.

I feel like this team may be a complete replica of the FB team, void of overall high end talent but will scrap and stay in games.

Tried to run and turned it over twice. They will though when opportunities are there. Ole Miss was committed to that pace as much if not more than we were.

Man I'm the opposite. I got bored with high scoring soft basketball and bitching about calls. I don't bitch about refs but iowa was on the short end a lot tonight and no one cried or lost their minds. Toughness is more entertaining to me than scoring, I guess. But I get what you're saying.

Starting at the under 12 we would have gone from being tied to down 10 in about 4 minutes.

It also didn’t take a “perfect” game to win tonight. Iowa played well but I guarantee McCollum is pissed about the defensive rotations on about a dozen possessions. They have plenty of room to improve but you can see there is a lot there to work with and that’ll be a joy to watch.

Two plays in a row, Iowa had guys fouled going to the rim with no call. Instead of McCollum or the players bitching about it, he told them to get up and haul ass back on defense. I appreciated that.

We do have a 1st round draft pick on the team - but agree with your general sentiment as well. Shortening the game, physical, etc.

They have the best PG in the country. Terrible comparison.
I can’t say if he is or is not the best PG in the country but that doesn’t really change my opinion. Outside of Stirtz who else on this team oozes high end talent?

That’s been obvious from the start being at every home game. They might raise their hands on the whistle but that’s about it. Sometimes when I think it’s terrible, they don’t react. Because they want to be physical too.

I liked and defended Fran most of his run and bitched about CBB letting stuff get ugly. But fuck. Some of the stuff it takes distance to realize how soft everything became. Ole Miss would have completely punked the last two teams by double digits. I probably also would have bitched about contact. Stockholm syndrome bitch.

Howard is going to need to shoot better than 8% from three. I'm starting to see why McCollum is sticking with him because he is a tough SOB defensively and a pretty good cutter but this team needs another willing shooter that's not a complete liability.

Oh, I get completely bored by that as well. Fran was great a lot of times, but there were stretches where it was like watching Big XII football in the 2010's where every game seemed to be 64-58.

There were a couple of boring stretches tonight, but it was awesome. Just different and not used to it yet.

He's a projected 1st round pick and will have the ball in his hands every possession for 40 minutes. He's going to get himself or somebody else a good shot pretty much every time down the court. Gronowski can't throw a 5 yard out.

I don’t think “toughness” means not bitching at refs. Just do it in the right spots and in a pragmatic manner, and not like a spoiled douche.

refs know they make mistakes and they appreciate everyone realizing that.

I think you mean "flash" more than high end talent. Iowa football has a shitload of high end talent, but they don't have flashy skill players.

This team reminds me of the football team and what you are talking about. They are just going to drag teams in the mud and grind them out, and there is going to be a lot of games when more athletic or talented teams that lack discipline lose their minds because Iowa is willing to grind them to dirt with all 30 seconds of that shot clock.
