I'm starting to think there is some payola going out for Cyclone and Gopher hype.

Iowa State football got nearly every break last year besides getting their ass kicked by Louisiana at home.

Most of the Big XII was ravaged by Covid-19 pauses while they didn't have any. They avoided playing Iowa at Kinnick. They caught TCU being idiots and not playing their best QB because of some false health scare. They were able to get Spencer Rattler early in Iowa State. Weak ass Texas that bungled their way to a loss. Multiple other teams fucked up and then they catch a 4 win Oregon team playing as a replacement in a laughable NY6 bowl. Stayed largely injury free in a really awful Big XII conference.

Similar to the year they had a pretty good year but was tainted by multiple lucky breaks and not losing a fumble all year, the next year they came crashing back to reality.

It is scientifically impossible for an offensive line with Sean Foster as the starting LT to be among the 25 best offensive lines in college football, let alone top 5.
Sadly, I didn't notice him hurting them last fall when tuning in. He's obviously still slow, but he seems to have adjusted to the game. Maybe comparable to how Kyle Calloway adjusted even though he wasn't exactly Mr. Twinkletoes. Still, it would be pretty appalling if that was all the better Iowa could do at that spot.

Clown linemen have been very fortunate to have had backs that can get yardage on their own at the point of attack. Goodson's a good back, obviously, but mostly does his damage after a play has a good start.

And... they have a QB that can get out of trouble and make first downs with his feet. Wouldn't that be a nice luxury?

Kyle Calloway was a much better football player than Sean Foster.

ISU's linemen really don't have to hold their blocks very long given their offense and they use their TE's really well scheme-wise. That's really the key to their offense. They rarely use only 5 OL in pass pro, but they often have 3 TE's on the field and to mitigate their weaknesses up front. Iowa does this often to protect that immobile QBs and to create different looks and to help block up front. ISU runs a different scheme but borrowed Iowa's TE usage philosophy and adapted it to their style of play. ISU's TE's aren't anywhere as athletic as Iowa's past TE's but it works for them in the Big 12.

Purdy is slow as fuck, runs like a goose and has a noodle arm. Don’t make him out to be anything more than he is.

Purdy doesn't like taking a hit. If he is under pressure he'll throw up a noodle bait for grabs.

I'm certainly not equating Foster and Calloway, but the latter was pretty bad in '07. Each guy got better. There may have been a lack of edge rush talent in the Big 12, of course. No clue there.

I feel like an ISU intern is responsible for that graphic because not only is ISU on there but of course the Iowa player is Petras who is wearing fanny pack looking hand warmer to boot.

Other than recent success bias, Iowa State’s look no different than any other BFBS jersey. worse even, since they’re so plain they were used in Any Given Sunday when Stone couldn’t license the NFL.
That’s what I’ve never understood. Every school that doesn’t have black as a primary color, still incorporates a school color with the black uniform. ISU has zero identity with their black uniforms, but to them, they are so sick, bro.

I don't feel like that Wisconsin game gets talked about enough. Sure it was at the end of the pandemic season but the Hawks kicked Wisconsin's ass in the snow at Kinnick. Damn shame there were no fans for that one.
it was football porn in every respect but a proper raucous crowd. BUT i kind of dig the unique “twas the night before Xmas” silent vibe

They are going to have a meteoric flame out this year after Kirk puts Campbell back in his place again and they will all be standing around wondering what happened and why are they in the Motor City Bowl?
Funny cause that'd be a top 15...probably top 10 season all time for them, no?

I wouldn't be shocked if they finished 9-4 and then bitched about a disappointing season
