Nebrantska sucks but will suddenly play out of their ass some games. Fredrick needs to play.

I feel like a stupid dumbfuck saying this about any game so early on the schedule, but this feels like a "must win" - and not just because of the L @ PSU yesterday.

I'm only thinking this because, even with this game taking place in Lincoln, this will very likely be looked upon as a 'Bad Loss' by the selection committee in March. Will be very surprised if Nebrantska finishes any better than a Bottom 3 spot in the B10 this season.

Yep, they have lost to a bunch of shit teams already and barely kept Rutgers within 20 when Rutgers was without their best player. No matter who is on the floor if we can't win this we aren't a tournament team.

Iowa is #20 in KenPom and #32 in NET. #2 offense and #98 defense

Nebrantska is #155 in KenPom and #167 in NET. #147 offense and #164 defense.

They have been fucking terrible other than 2 games. Somehow they stuck close with Indiana and then throttled Purdue.

Purdue is a good defensive team but a bad offensive team. When they can't hit shots they get blown out. It happened against Nebrantska. It happened tonight against Illinois. They shot 30% from the field and 17% (6/35) from three against Nebrantska.

As long as Iowa isn't ice cold from the field and play even moderate defense they should blow them the fuck out.

Fredrick needs to play.
This is universally true.

Fredrick being out leads to too many minutes for Pemsl and Evelyn. Those aren’t players who should be getting meaningful playing time for a Big Ten team that aspires to play .500 ball in conference.

There will be no easy road games in the I am a giant douche. Neb will likely have a lively crowd and atmosphere despite their shit team

They don't have a big at all -- Garza should have another huge game.

Evelyn is limited but he doesn't actively hurt you the way Pemsl does.

Exactly. Evelyn is a serviceable backup guard. Pemsl is playing flat out terrible on both ends.

I don’t know. Pemsl’s butt is good for 3 rebounds per game. That’s something.

This is clearly the fault of all the Halomen demanding Fran shorten his rotation.

He doesn’t miss much time, but Connor gets sick or hurt more than anyone in recent memory.

Seriously though....

Jack Nunge - ACL (out for season)
Jordan bohannon - Hip surgery (out for season)
Patrick McCaffery - Malignant cancer issues (out for season)
CJ Fredrick - Ankle, groin (out for game possibly)
Connor McCaffery - illness (out for game possibly)
Austin Ash - Mono (out for 4 weeks and possibly season)
Cordell Pemsl - back spasms, knee surgery recovery (playing about 60% at best)

Half the fucking team is either out for the season, sick or ineffective.

Thankfully I think that as long as Till and Pemsl can even give a little help Iowa can still win with what they have.

Is Pat for sure shut down for season? He can still play a few more games and redshirt right?

I haven't heard anything official, but there hasn't been any indication he is close to being back. Also, I thought you could only play in the first half of the season to get a medical waiver. Tomorrow's game is 15 of 30, so that would be his last chance to play.

We finally get a guy who has potentially ascended to first team All-America and because of injuries we have a shell of a team around him.

There was a photo of him shaking Frans old coaches hand while wearing his practice jersey. Might have been just shooting free throws.

Either way, if he can give them minutes I don’t see why he couldn’t redshirt next season when every position will essentially be a logjam.

I didn't know Pemsl was still banged up. Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't return next year

He has been at least practicing and shooting around every game, they just don't have him playing because I think they have decided to redshirt him.

If CJ and Connor are both out tomorrow, it will be the first time all season we've missed Moss.

Think about that for a few seconds...with a win they’re 11-4 and 2-2 with a great NET rating.

You never want to go on the road with a depleted roster, but if it's going to happen, it's probably best against Nebrantska this year.

Three weeks ago Iowa had the best scoring post player in the big ten (country?) surrounded by three great shooters and a solid ball handler/passer. This week it's looking like one great shooter, a freshman who can't shoot, a transfer who won't shoot and goth lurch. Ick.

I'm sitting here imagining the potential for the 'healthy' scholarship roster for tomorrow's game, and I feel a little ill. JT-BE-JW-RK-LG starting isn't the worst lineup in the world, given what might be available.

But then there's only Pemsl as the lone (on scholarship) reserve....

I’m guessing Connor gives it a go. CJ will go through warmups and shut it down.

If the Hawks can win this game and somehow go 9-9ish in a hellaciously tough conference like the B10 this year - with the severe case of "injury bug" they've had to endure - they deserve to be no less than a 6-seed in the Big Dance.

I know they'll be more like a 9 or 10 [without a big run in the BTT], but as a homer, to finish .500 in the best conference in America with little more than a starting lineup's worth of scholarship players available would be quite the feat.
