I've never understood how they can sound so awful. I listen to a ton of podcasts, and not all of them are from big studios. Some are just one or two guys and a microphone. But somehow, Miller and Deace, two guys who worked in real radio for a number of years, think highly of themselves and see themselves as media experts can't manage to sound any better than complete shit.
