I have nobody to go get a drink with me. :(

Stinky doesn't like me anymore or is out of town or some bullshit and keggy won't be seen in public with me (understandably).
I quit drinking. Don't feel bad.

Also, this hire is likely going to be the hire of the century. I see real potential with Philip Parker. The man knows his shit and will find diamonds in the rough. Just you wait, boyz!!!

I guess I really don't care who our DC is and I think its absolutely ludicrous for people to act like they have a clue who would be the best candidate.

Hey scottsdale, you're a real piece of shit and I fucked your mother. Assfuckinghole face dildo breath homo. Eat a cock. Dick.
Normally I don't appreciate Frodo's humor, or his posts in general, but I have to say it: This.
You keep forgetting people don't care what you think or who you are. Hang in there, champ.

If you think new blood and fresh perspective is needed, perhaps desperately, there certainly is, IMO.

This is where I stand on the issue. I have nothing against Parker really but since we have a few openings, especially at an impact position, I would like to see an outsider brought it. The staff has been very stagnant over the years (which is obviously good and bad) but I think if you want to shake things up now is a good time because KF isnt going to fire anybody and I suspect that Phil's defense would be very similar to Norms.

The only good thing with Parker is that we're going to gain another recruiter by replacing his old spot.

do we gain a recruiter, or simply have a DC who can talk to kids face to face on the road? i know norm didnt recruit off campus but i guess I figured that we had someone else using that open slot.

There's no good reason for people to be this opposed to Phil Parker. None.
Word is that he was an unmitigated disaster as "acting" coach last year and the other defensive coaches had to take over for him. A buddy of mine who hangs/drinks occassionally with some program-connected individuals (but not coaches) passed that along to me. I wouldn't necessarily take it worth any other piece of dogshit gossip, but he also told me about a month ago that the Derby parents were trashing Ferentz' integrity and honesty to anyone in Iowa City that would listen and that AJ wouldn't be staying long. He had also told me to not get too confident with regards to Coker's career at Iowa. He knew that Robinson's "academic indigestion" had to do with phones and camaras and tests.

Gossip or rumors or not, he's had a pretty good track record this year. That's what makes me the most worried about a Phil Parker-to-DC move.

Have you even listened to Norm talk about his other jobs? He was a blitzing fool at other places. He coached at Iowa a certain way for a reason...his boss.

Plus people are discounting the perspective that as an assistant you have to coach the way your boss tells you to, knowing that if you ever got a chance there would be SO many things you would do differently.

PHILLIP: Oh Raspberries, looks like I'm losing a friend.

TERRANCE: No, you're gaining a pop vocalist.

And I keep checking this thread for an update on who has been named DC. Disappointed every time I open it.

I think hiring Phil Parker ups the ante on KF getting back to at least 9 wins within 2 years or the seat will actually begin to get pretty hot...If it's clear - even next year - that our defense isn't very good (whether fair or not)...the grumbling is REALLY going to intensify...

Going with a fresh face probably gets him to 3 or 4 years in that regard.

I agree, even if it's just window dressing. Bring in some fresh blood and you can argue that you're going through some growing pains. If you stick with the status quo and struggle, people will question that much more quickly.

By this logic, it is ludicrous for people to question play calling, clock management, personnel decisions, or really anything related to coaching. It's a sports forum. Hand-wringing over coaching stuff goes with the territory.

And KOK ran a spread - I get it. I just feel that the landscape of college football is changing (ie more spreads, etc) and I hope KF realizes this and starts to adjust his philosophy a bit more, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. I think if you bring in an outside who has some experience running a different sort of defense Iowa would be harder to prepare for.

If you bring in Parker I don't see that shift taking place as much and we will still lose to Northwestern and Indiana.

ive mentioned before that ive already heard that PP is loved by his players and a talented coach but his upside might be limited. thats why i think that he is staying put and that the DC is coming from elsewhere.

Even though my heart would sink a bit if it were Phil Parker (as I agree in general that the program is in need of some 'fresh blood')...I would give him every chance to succeed at the position & not prejudge his tenure as being purely an extension of NP. (Although that would probably change quickly after ISU converted 80% of their 3rd downs in this year's game...).

If this is true, everyone has known this since October.

it seems to me like our last shakeup was effective so i suppose i am giving KF the benefit of the doubt here.

As much as we tease Monster, AZ is way more of a "never question the coaches!!!1!" poster than Monster ever was.

Dude you aren't getting it. Whoever the DC is will run the defense KF wants him to run. Yeah you're talking about a fresh face and perspective, I get it. But there's also something to be said for promoting from within. What if PP IS the right guy for the job? We're indicting him based on our feelings on how the defense has performed under Norm the last 2 years. What if a lot of that was out of PP's control?

I don't think this was ever confirmed publicly. But my buddy told me that the word was Robinson was caught either taking pictures of tests and sharing them iwth others, or receiving photos of tests himself. This kind of cheating is a pretty big problem right now in schools.

I threw it in the list because my buddy told me about before the "academic indigestion" was reported to the public. While the latter does not prove the former, it leads me to think there is some truth/veracity to what my buddy told me.
